Ms. Smith Petition
Ms. Smith has come to me as the nurse manager of the medical unit with a petition. She believes that female employees are not given the same treatment as male employees. Although I believe that the hospital provides equal opportunities to everyone without discrimination against a specific gender, I have decided to look into the matter. Being that the personnel evaluation is in a week, there is no reason that this petition will interfere with that activity. Since the petition is about unequal promotion and training opportunities then this is the best time to deal with the issue.
The first thing I will do is get a record of all promotions and training that have been done in the hospital. These records will help me see the criteria that have been used to select who qualifies for a promotion or training. Should there be any reason that the selections have not been fair, then the petition will be taken to the general hospital administrator. Here there will be more people who will evaluate the petition. If the records show that Ms. Smith is only causing unnecessary trouble within the hospital, then I will recommend dismissal from her post as a unit clerk.
Ms. Smith has worked for this hospital for the past four years. She has always been a hardworking person. Four years is a long time for someone working in the same post. Smith may be feeling that she has not been given a promotion because she is a female. The fact that is has been causing problems lately is a sign that she is not happy at work. She has already been warned against taking long coffee breaks which may be a reason to show that she is not motivated to work. For these reasons I have decided that it is imperative to investigate the claims in this petition.
