my moral exemplar in Business and leadership ethics

Moral exemplars in leadership and business ethics are people who have excelled and done beyond the expectation in their various leadership and Business positions. These moral exemplars play a significant role in the business and leadership ethics .A moral exemplar can be defined as a person or thing that can be emulated due to his or her excellent demonstration of moral conduct especially in the face of challenging and tempting situations. These includes individuals who have demonstrated a sense of noble sacrifice and commitment, an individual who takes a principled individual stand as his or her motivator. In this essay, I am going to summarize what I interviewed about my moral exemplar in Business and leadership ethics who is Adam Williams, a businessman and manager of many business firms in the Chicago.

From my interview with my moral exemplar Williams, I learned a lot of many things from him. There are some positive influences I learned from him, and the first influence is that he is a self-motivated person. His stand shows this during the anti-trust suits that were leveled against his shops and other firms that he owns across the Chicago but he did not lose hope, he stood still and self-motivated himself, and he knew that one day his single shop would expand and be among the shops everybody wants to be associated with in the city of Chicago .Another positive thing I learned from him is that he acknowledges and appreciates that people need change. Recently, he stopped from participating in the day to day running of his firms, and this shows that he is not in greed of leadership position as some people are.

Williams has done a lot of good deeds that I got to understand during the interview; he has set up a charitable organization that oversees projects across Chicago helping the less fortunate people in the community. These projects that are of benefit to all the people in Chicago and the neighboring areas. One of the projects is the Williams Foundation which is a philanthropic organization with approximately one hundred million dollars endowment which Williams runs with his wife which aims at human civilization across Chicago. Williams has been faced with obstacles during his journey to success. These barriers include criticism that and anti-protests. During the 1990s, faced anti-trusts suits which were intended to kill his shops and their future. Williams Foundation had also faced with criticism for being biased in the way they it carries out it projects and the methods it uses to identify the less fortunate people in the community. For example in 2014, Some people complained that the people who benefitted from Williams foundation were not really that needy ones in their community, his foundation’s decision to donate fifty million dollars to Chicago government for the purpose of mass education and in support of those children who hailed from poor background and were not able to cater for the school fees sparked protests from the residents of Chicago. Williams overcome all these obstacles by standing strong for what he thinks is right for the general population but not for individual persons. This position has given him a standout on how to manage the ethical conduct of direct reports and the media

Lastly, Williams is motivated by some factors which include his business skills, his convincing and persuasive power and leadership skills. It is though his convincing and persuasive skills that he started making his first cash when he approached a shop attendant and convinced him to give him a job during his youthful days, through this work in the shop, he learnt business skills, ethics and leadership that helped him to start his own first shop a few years later and then the rest as we can see is history. Williams’s beliefs that the best way to succeed is by helping the less fortunate people in the community, this is evident in his many charitable organizations that are intended to help the needy in the society.

In conclusion, Adam Williams will always be my moral exemplar in ethical business and leadership standards, and I believe this interview will motivate me to emulate him in my day to day activities which include business life and leaderships positions.
