My Relationship with Writing
What is my relationship with writing? Well, where should I begin? At times, I do strongly dislike writing, but not all the times. The reasoning behind this emotion would have to do with the experienced that I have come across since I started attending school in the United States. Over the last nine years, I had struggled to write so others can understand, present my paper to appear intelligent, and even feeling as if others look down on me.
First of all, many have a tough time of expressing themselves through writing. Personally, I am positive that I am one of many! In 7th grade, we had an assignment to write a creative poem. The teacher could not understood what I meant by “my heart was pure and my mind was blue like the sky”. Yes looking back now, I can see why she did not understood that, because even I do not understand why I put that down. Well I meant my heart was pure, innocent and my mind was empty, and filled with space like the sky. It was an odd comparison I do admit. It is one of those moments that it sounded a whole lot better inside my head than out. Expressing my thoughts had always been one of the hardest thing to do when it comes to writing.
Secondly, there are different levels of writing and how it should be presented. For instance, college level writing is much more difficult than it would be at a middle school level. I do not believe that I am exceeding to where I need to be. At the moment, I would not be able to see the level of writing that I am currently on, until I see another individual’s work. It is very discouraging knowing that I desire to do so much better but cannot be done. Feeling like I am lack of the ability to do so. Making a paper or an essay sounds intelligent takes many steps, or so what I have heard. If I truly know the step I believe I could improve my writing a lot more.
In the third place, at times, I do sense that others look down on how I write. I once had someone told me that they do not look down on the people who are less intelligent than they are. That individual responded when asked why not, it’s like asking, “Why don’t you walk around punching people who are weaker than you?” I guess that individual has a point, but I cannot help it but to think that people really do. Of course, everyone is unique in their own way. Not everyone is going to say that they really do not judge others because I know a few do. When people do not understand others, they mistaking them for less intelligent, or even strange. Many had told me that individuality is expected during writing papers for class. Many just want the same style of writing and the same content, not all of course, but most. It is difficult to write an individual paper but about the same content as everyone else. That is just my intake on what I feel how others are.
As a final point, relationship and I sure can get along. If writing would be less complicated this relationship could really work. If we did not listen to others on our relationship and just focus on us when we are working on a writing assignment then we would not dislike each other so much. We could work on talking things out instead of listening to others. I feel like I just took a big step in this relationship, which is, admitting that I am the problem. But do we still a lot of problems to work on? Of course yes! That is why I had struggled to write so others can understand, present my paper to appear intelligent, and even feeling as if others look down on me. Writing could treat me a whole lot better maybe this relationship could work. I would like writing to work on what it need to work on. We have a lot to work on, maybe it is me and not writing. I do believe practice makes perfect. I will be sticking to that saying from now on and work a bit more on myself then focus on me and writing. We will see where it leads me and writing.
