Netanyahu Falls Short of Majority as Israel Again Faces Electoral Deadlock

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s party, won the most parliamentary seats in Monday’s national elections. However, the party failed to secure majority seats in the right-wing bloc, thus creating a chance for the fourth election in less than a year. Despite the indictment for corruption and bribery, the prime minister perceives the underscore is an indication of strength. While this may have been the third election in less than a year, Netanyahu stands a better chance of forming a government.

With nearly all of the votes accounted for, the prime minister has led the race with 36 seats. Despite his inability to form a government, Netanyahu continues to portray himself as a winner. Although he refused to respond to an inquiry about his inability to form a government, he proceeded to claim that the joint list should not be considered in the evaluation to form a government.

While the Israeli law does not require the resignation of a prime minister after the indictment, it is unclear whether Netanyahu can be granted a chance to form a government. As such, the prime minister will begin consulting the elected parties for recommendations. In this context, the party that emerges with the most recommendations will have an opportunity to form a government.

While Likud and its allies claim of luring defectors from opposition parties, the rumored defectors have denied the claims. Therefore, the most appropriate way out of the situation is to develop a power-sharing government led by the two parties that control the parliamentary majority. However, Gantz, who is leading the other party, ruled out the sharing of powers as long as the prime minister, Netanyahu, continues to be in power.

In my opinion, the two parties should engage in talks in an attempt to form a government within the allotted time. I find the article to be informative in the current business and world events. The events in these articles are likely to have a major impact on the business sector of Israel. If the two parties do not form a government within the specified time, Israel may face a fourth election that could deter business activities in the nation.
