Nongkrem Dance Festival
Wangala – The Harvesting Festival: It is an important festival of Garo tribes in the state of Meghalaya and is celebrated after the harvest season. During the festival, locals organize a publicity ceremony in almost every village of the state in honor of the deity Patigappa Rarangipa. The people of the state continuously perform religious rites and rituals with unrestrained babble in four days and nights. The conclusion of the festival is marked by the warrior’s dance, which is truly a spectacular and mesmerizing spectacle.
The Wangala Festival is a two-day festival celebrated in Meghalaya. This festival is dedicated to Lord Suryanarayana. It is the largest traditional festival for the Wangala Garo tribes. This festival is celebrated at the end of autumn at every harvesting time. The harvest festival is organized in the second week of November every year. On the occasion of this festival, people like to dance day and night. The main center of attraction of the Wangala Festival is 100 drums or drums.
Behdienkhlam Festival: The Bedinakhalam festival celebrated by the Jaintia tribe of Meghalaya is very popular in Meghalaya. The Bedinakhalam festival is celebrated to chase the demon of Cholahera. This festival of Meghalaya is celebrated every year on the occasion of sowing in the month of July. Apart from these, some other festivals of Meghalaya include Lahu, Nongkhilam and Shad Suk Mansem etc.
