Not taking medications as prescribed
Case Study
Linda is a 62-year-old woman who lives alone. She recently fell and injured herself and ended up having to seek medical treatment. When the doctor discovered that not taking her medications as prescribed is what lead to her falling, he recommended she seek counseling. Linda tells you that she wanted to seek counseling anyway because she has been grieving over her husband’s death and thought counseling “might help.” Linda states that she has been misusing the medications to “escape.” She shares that she started a grief group at her church for others like herself and that she has found this helpful. Linda worries though that she may be addicted to her pain medications and shares that she is embarrassed about her fall. She states she does not want her children to find out because they will worry.
