Without doubt, from the reading of Oakland community sports, it has been clear that sports have a fundamental role in society. Also, historical, economic and political factors are likely to impact Oakland professional sports. Now from Oakland community sports, players are expected to graduate into professional sportspersons.

Historical factors remind people who they were/are, and how sports should be exploited to build a more united Oakland community. Historically, Oakland is considered an epicentre of black power empowerment. Therefore, there is a feeling among some players to put more effort into sports so that they can be part of professional sports, where they can prove their abilities. Essentially, history reminds people who they are and that to some considerable level help them refocus their efforts on becoming recognizable sportspersons.

People get into professional sports for economic empowerment (Foxsports, 2016). Sports pay, and that is why everyone would strive to succeed in it. Those who played or are playing for Golden State Warriors know the economic benefits of professional sports. Thus, economic factors motivate players in professional sports so that they can be financially independent and better their lives. Nevertheless, political factors such as political stability create a favourable environment for professional sports. Political factors determine the influence of professional sports in society on crucial issues like leadership and socio-economic development.

Question 2

The history of Oakland’s Town Park is a beautiful one, and it shows how people can come together to develop something that benefits the entire community. First, the park was developed by adults primarily to serve their families and the youth. The park was designed to serve the community as “Urban Platform for Capital.”

Based on history, Town Park was established on the revolutionary ground. It was developed in a park considered an epicentre of Black Panther’s community party. This party used ran its outreach programs, particularly to mobilize people to arise to defend their rights. Reportedly, the part was assumed to be the ground for the civil rights movement in West Oakland.

In general, Town Park was developed on two key reasons to serve families and the youth. It is believed that it developed due to the revolutionary movement, especially for the black people in 1960s and 1970s skills (Moving Boarders, 2018). However, K-Dub twisted everything and turned Town Park into a platform where people can meet for social activities to enable participants’ network and gain skills (Moving Boarders, 2018). Besides, the park is used by members and supporters of the skate community to develop skating skills, for skating competition and for community cohesion. Skating is an activity that can unite and build the community, and Town Park is serving that purpose.

Question 3

San Jose City projects itself as a centre of auction-sports. The city is determined to keep its community active and engaged in sports, and this is underscored in how it is managing skating. First, the city has constituted sports management so that it can have uncut revenue streams, robust programs and promotion. The decision to make sports organized and managed professionally reflects state cultures in the city.

San Jose City is labelled the “Capital of Silicon Valley,” perhaps this also reflects how the city is a divide for skate cultures. If something acts as a divide, it implies that it shows differences between two sides. Notably, the city has developed a Lake Cummingham Regional Skate Park which mainly embodies skate culture. Also, the decision to establish different parks to some extent intended to serve different cultural needs of skating activities of Lake Cunningham and Roosevelt.

In essence, the city reflects its two different types of skate cultures by supporting every community. There is a dedicated effort to support these two skate cultures so that the city can position itself centrally in global capital (Moving Boarders, 2018). Also, the city’s focus to skateboarding underscores its caring nature to the community. Similarly, San Jose City reflects how skateboarding can be maximized to meet community needs to position the city as a sports, economic or innovation hub.

Question 4

In the final paper, I intend to focus my interview on two subjects. The first interview subject should be residing within Lake Cummingham. I would like one of these subjects to focus on how skateboarding/sports has influenced urban planning of San Jose City. I am particularly interested in getting first-hand information from urban planners. The first-hand information will better my understanding of the City of San Jose. Therefore, this interview subject will be someone who has a professional background in urban planning. The second interview subject will be from a tourist. This second subject will give independent views on what they think about the city. The subject will respond to questions like what attracts them to San Jose City.

These two interview subjects will give different perspectives on what they think about San Jose City. Bring an individual with a professional background in urban planning will give educative insights into how and why this city is organized the way it is. The tourist will share the reason they visit the city and the level of satisfaction they gain while in the city. Besides, this will be a semi-structured interview. I will have lead questions and follow up questions. Semi-structured interview will offer me an opportunity to ask more relevant questions so that I could gather more relevant data about San Jose City.
