The inner force that pushes individuals to do a particular thing is commonly referred to as Motivation. Reason for Employee motivation
Motivation is essential for every entity; hence many employers have the culture of motivating employees. The goals of an organization are not only attained, but Motivation is making employees improve on performance at the same time they become more productive and reduce the turnover. Employees tend to put their best efforts into an activity where they feel they are motivated. This facilitates an easier achievement of the organization’s goals. Where employees are satisfied in their work, employees become more satisfied and get the zeal to work in the organization hence reducing the turnover.
Employees should be motivated at all times to encourage them to be creative, hardworking, and become innovative enough. The fact they are motivated will make them strive to meet their set benchmarks will minimal supervision from the supervisors.
Motivation creates a good working relationship between the employers and the employees. Motivation will make sure that employees use their best efforts in creating good shots as they are more happy and satisfied with their work.
The workforce of an entity is more stable and intact, where the employees are motivated. Employees can work entirely without wasting time trying to look for jobs in other areas as they are satisfied with their current place of work. With this, the entity will be able to have a growth in the talents as well as maintain the talented employees where an organization I sable to retain its employees, an excellent public image is created hence attracting new employees who may be more qualified than the current (Udrescu, 2017).
Entities that motivate the employees make them get the urge to work faster, which mak the activities to run faster as well as help save of different costs and save on resources needed. With low Motivation, employees will need to be motivated occasionally which is not only time consuming but expensive (Pinder, C.c (2014)
Types of Motivation
Motivation can be divided into two broad categories which are intrinsic or extrinsic. Intrinsic Motivation is Motivation which comes from with, and employee which can be either the zeal to succeed, fear of failure or the self-motivation for one to get recognized for their actions Examples of an instance of having intrinsic Motivation is when an employee is independent, wants to perform well, is well organized and has the desire to feel relevant.
Extrinsic Motivation is motivations in which n they are driven by external factors that give the urge for one to work harder. External Motivation includes material benefits, vacations, rewards, and bonuses that one can get.
Theories on Motivativation and Areas where they have been applied
There are a variety of motivation theories that exist and are used in the Motivation of the employees. One of the most prominent methods that have been used over the years is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Motivation. According to the theory of Maslow’s, Motivation in an organization is based on five levels, which determine the mode of Motivation. The need in an organization is organized on a hierarchical basis, and employees are obliged to make efforts, while the organization has to take measures up the pyramid, which will facilitate meeting the needs of the employees. In the t, the lowest level has food shelter and sleep, while the second from the bottom of the pyramid is the security while belonging is in the third (Gawel, 1997). Majority of organization mainly concentrates on the two layers at the top are self-actualization and esteem needs to act as a motivation to the employees
Equity theory is a theory that explains that employees tend to feel well motivated when they get to be treated well at their places of work. In a situation where the employees are not treated well, they get to feel demotivated, and the urge to work at their best is lowered. According to the theory, employees need to feel they get recognized for the work they get to do through appreciation, such as salary increments, bonuses, and rewards. According to John Stacy Adams, hen insinuates that employees tend to feel demotivated in scenarios where they get to be singled out.
Just as in most organizations, the organization that I work for has majored in motivating through the gift of rewards and bonuses. One of the organizations that standouts on Motivation is Eddon. Eddon CEO stands out for his improved performance over the years through leadership qualities that employee-oriented through Motivation. The environment of the entity is designed in such a manner that it gets to promote inclusivity as well as motivating the customers.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs has been largely utilized in the entity by focusing on trying to address the self-actualization needs. The main focus of the company is ensuring that the employees are happy and feel satisfied and hence creating the urge to work in Eddon. With regard to the payment, the employees are well known to pay employees well and even given benefits that are highly attractive such as health care coverage. Over the years, the company has experienced a decrease in the turnover pf the employees. The CEO argues that the pyramid decrease in the turnover is as a result of the employees feeling satisfied and happy hence creating a driving force even to have the urge of performing
Eddon has strived to ensure that employees are motivated. This has created truest and helped nurture employees by making them feel comfortable to work in a particular organization. The use of incentives by the organization has facilitated to make the employees more motivated, happy, hardworking, creative enough and made the organization to run in better ways
Ways of Making employees Motivated
Ensuring there is optimum communication with employees. This one of the key Motivations that employees get in the organization. Employers should communicate the goals and the objectives the entity has, this creates the sense that employees feel they y are part of the body and make s them work towards achieving their personal goals ( Achim, Dragolea & Balan, 2013). There is a need to ensure that employees occasionally communicate with the management for them to exchange their different ideas Aand help them to work together. Communication also facilitates ni keep roles clear, improving on the relationship, and ensure there is minimum anxiety in by ensuring inputs performance is optimum.
Employees are highly motivated whenever they get positive feedback and are recognized. It is essential for every organization to acknowledge the efforts that are made as it ensures they are able to work in better ways. More often, people tend to consider recognition based on rewards; however, word of the moth is also enough Motivation. When one gets positive feedback, he gets to strive to perform better (Pinder, 2014). Where feedbacks given are negative, this gives the employees the opportunity to strive and deliver positive results. The use of simple words such as congratulations, thank you are motivating enough to make the employees feel part of the organization and get the zeal even to work harder.
Employees are motivated when the management involves them in the making of plans and decision making rather than the implementation of projects alone. When employees are affected, a different level of trust is created as the employees tend to feel that their input in the organization is highly appreciated. In a situation where employees get to see their ideas implemented, they get more motivated in achieving them and providing the organization that the plans are fruitful. Employees feel demotivated where their role is only implementing policies in which they were not involved in the creation, whereas they are the ones involved in the actual functions.
An increased number of responsibilities on the employees is a motivating factor. When employees are given more responsibilities in the running of an entity, they become more obliged to work towards achieving the targets of the set roles ( Pinder, C, 2004). WEmploees should be challenged to conduct particular tasks for them to make more. Responsibilities also act as a training ground where the employees can get to learn on ways of achieving different skills.
Employees can be motivated by giving bonuses, vacations, and increasing their pay. Considering most employees work to earn and not out of passion, getting to provide them with the financial reward is motivating enough to make them more productive and focus on achieving the goals. When employees are listened to and given positive feedbacks and even given better rewards, they feel encouraged to also work harder in their roles. Employees should, therefore avoiding negative criticism as it si demotivating and may affect the performance of the employees. Where criticism is negative, it should at all times be accompanied by solutions on ways in which the condition can be improved.
The coaching of employees is a better way of motivating employees. When employees are coached, they are able to understand the different challenges the entity is facing and the new opportunities that are lying that can be of assistance in improving the performance. For coaching to be motivating enough, it should be able to recognize the performance of the employees and ensure it gets to improve over time
