Hello Rachel,
I agree with your perspective on the assigned readings on the discovery of America. I found the topic to be exciting as it gets to talk much about how America was founded in 1492. It also discusses some of the discoveries that were made during the period. One of the discoveries was by Christopher Columbus over his first voyage. I found it amusing to learn about his navigation, where he hoped to rule the Mongols upon his arrival. The fact that he even wished to become the ruler but got limited makes a lot of sense as, during the days, there was a lot of competition. Due to the intensity of the competition, it was difficult for Columbus to meet his goals. At one point, he even had no idea of the role he had played in the world until later on. I equally agree that America evolved from Amerigo Vespucci, which is one of the points that amused me in the entire reading.
Growing up as a child, it was common to be told that Columbus discovered America. I, therefore, find that Rachel’s discussion of the discovery of Americans to be very reliable in this case. Looking at the discussion, Rachel makes it clear that Columbus was not whom we grew up knowing he was; instead, he played a different role in America. He initially saw the natives as slaves as they appeared to be easier to overcome. I conquer with the fact that Columbus made several voyages, but it still does not make him the one who discovered America. Elements such as the Ptolemy of Geography were completely not given credit, and they were among the factors that deserved praise for facilitating growth in America.

I sincerely enjoyed reading your post as I could relate a lot to what I have read in historic books sometime back. An example is in the case where I got exposed to new information on the Philippine women. I have previously heard about it, but it never crossed my mind that it was a real thing happening. They would be compared to men due to their superior and robust nature. Their nature allowed them to hold a leadership position as well as work for what they believed they deserved. I found it to be quite helpful in how you related their abilities in terms of how different they were as compared to other women.
In addition to that, I also found the post to be useful as it emphasizes on some of the issues that take place within our societies. I usually love to know the things that happen around me, and getting to read your post helped familiarize myself with a lot I had previously not understood. For instance, I realized that women can also play roles which are believed to be men’s. It is shocking, but it does not change the fact that our societies have certain beliefs that applied up to date. History had women step up and work to make themselves better.
