Performance Assessment
Junie B. Jones is nervous first time kindergartener who will be riding the bus to school. When she finds out that she has to ride the bus, she gets disgusted. Her mom puts her on the bus and she doesn’t like it at all. She rides the bus to school and on upon getting off, she gets knocked off by a boy named Jim. She also meets a girl named Lucy who becomes her friend. After school, instead of going home, she ends up hiding and wandering around the school. Her mom tells her that in case of an emergency, always call 9-1-1. She calls the number and soon arrives her mom, the police, and the principal. When her mom gives her a talk about how she was wrong for doing what she did and how the bus ride wouldn’t be bad, she rides the bus and meets a girl named Grace. She then realizes that riding the bus isn’t bad after all.
Goal– The goal is to recognize and identify the characters, the main character, along with the setting, main idea, conflict, and solution of the story.
Audience– The audience would be elementary age children, preferably those who are in fourth grade and below.
Situation– The challenge involves learning new literary vocabulary, while understanding and comprehending what the story is about along with main details in the story.
Product– You can develop a brainstorming chart or storyboard. In the chart or storyboard, you can list the characters, including the main character, the setting of the story, the story’s main idea, the conflict, outcome, and resolution. A book report will also be done along with the chart or board to briefly summarize, tell your likes or dislikes, and what you have learned from the book.
Standards and Criteria for Success– Your work will be graded using a traditional form of grading and also a number scale of 1-5.
