Personal Progress Project

For a long time, I have been struggling with the need to become physically fit. After seeing my relatives suffer as a result of leading a sedentary life, I have been motivated to engage in physical activities to improve my health and well-being. However, as it is known to most, exercising and observing strict dieting practices is quite challenging. The fear of becoming obese or contracting cardiovascular diseases has motivated me enough to get out of my couch and hit the floor. Besides, it is a bad feeling to look older than you really are. Although exercising and observing a strict diet is difficult, I am ready to challenge myself and begin the regime.

From the situation in my family, my level of motivation is 9 in that I am highly motivated to break the chain of obesity, heart attack, and related lifestyle diseases. However, although I am highly motivated, I need to develop measurable goals that will keep me motivated. The goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, attainable, and timely. Considering I am a first-time beginner, I will exercise 30 minutes a day. However, considering this can deem tiring and exhausting at a go, I will exercise twice a day; for 15 minutes in the morning and 15 in the evening before dinner.

In order to achieve this, I will register at the nearby gym, where I will attend twice a week because of my busy schedule. For the remaining days, I will sign up with a private therapist who will visit me twice a day to keep me going. This is important since I am likely to lose motivation if I decide to exercise alone.

After a few days of exercising

About seven days ago, I made a resolution to change my life and lifestyle for the better. I signed up with a therapist who has been visiting every twice a day. During the weekends, I have been reporting at the gym in the neighborhood. Looking at myself now makes me feel good. Although I have not shed a significant amount of weight, I feel lighter, and my heart throbs faster. I am also more active, vibrant, and ready to engage in household activities. Unlike before, when I wanted to sit on my couch and eat dirty, I have also become more conscious of my diet.

Although I was highly motivated at day 1, my body’s agility and strength could only take 5 minutes of continuous workout. I spend the other minutes doing yoga and contemplating how I was going to improve. By the last day, I was motivated, and my body was adjusting slowly to the demands.

Experience

Setting out this goal was important to me in that I needed to avoid the likelihood of falling victim to obesity and the diseases ailing my family. My cousins had been diagnosed with obesity, my father had diabetes, and my grandmother was suffering from high blood pressure. After analyzing their lives, I realized that none of the led an active life; their occupations entailed sitting all day and driving back home, after which they would eat unhealthy foods. These aspects gave me a reason to change my future and how I felt about my body.

My thoughts about this behavior were to feel good about myself, become more confident, and appear elegant in my clothes. Throughout the activity, I was focused on achieving my goal and working for the money I had invested in my therapist and at the gym.

The level of motivation I had was significant to the achievement of my goals. This is because exercising is not an easy task and requires the utmost commitment. Having a lower level of motivation would have caused me to give up on the affair. However, some of the plans I had made initially while others failed to work. For instance, I had planned to work 30 minutes a day and work with my therapist every day. This schedule was disrupted by my busy lifestyle, so I rescheduled such that I called her whenever I was available. Additionally, instead of exercising twice a day, I decided to push myself harder and achieve my targets in one round. Besides, my therapists’ schedule was tight, an aspect that caused me to make changes to achieve my goals. Since I enrolled, I have been feeling good about myself. I walk confidently, dress appealingly, and enjoy how light I feel. I am also more active, and I am excited about continuing with my exercising journey. In the future, I intend to watch my diet closely and increase the time I spend exercising.
