- What drew you to choose that reportage sequence?
Lynsey reports on dangerous war-torn areas. Her courage and passion motivate me to pursue the truth using photojournalism regardless of the risks involved.
- What is the main theme of the story?
The above picture is described as Lynsey Addario’s best shot. The main theme of the story is the risks taken and the loneliness experienced by the soldiers in their line of duty. The death of their colleague who had a plan to propose to his girlfriend after the war makes one question whether the war is worth dying for.
- What are some of the techniques the photographer has used in their images and how do they affect the overall story?
Lynsey has made proper use of context and emotion. Regarding context, without reading the story about the image, the picture clearly shows how the soldiers are carrying a dead body. In regard to emotions, the weary look on the soldiers’ faces implies that the body they are carrying is that of their colleagues. With these two techniques in use, one can conclude that the soldiers are carrying a fellow soldier who was killed in action even without reading the story behind the photo.
