Life is a continuous learning process. Every day, we learn new things that expand our scope of knowledge. As a student, gaining new experience is an indispensable part of learning. Throughout the semester, there was so much information to learn and to internalize. In the process, I discovered new things and practices, which I could incorporate in my day to day life. We explored several projects which included the curation, the high impact practice, the research project, and the composing process. Also, we discussed our group’s museum presentation, did our summaries, and finally, we had a personal assignment. The projects helped to sharpen our skills, and I am going to use their outcomes to write my cover letter.

The curator project required a demonstration of knowledge on the various modern meanings of the word curator. An article in the New York Times by Alex Williams explores the use of the term curator and its application in the museum context. The word depicted a cultural and artistic concept, and people who used it felt the need for a kind of sophistication to describe their duties. Under this project, our group discussed the museum presentation, where we discussed the importance of a museum. Throughout the years, museums have been significant in storing historical, scientific, artistic, and cultural works, where people can always go to refer.

During the semester, we also did a research project that tested our research abilities. Before the project, I had little knowledge of how to write a research paper, and thus, the project opened me to the world of scholars. Research is intensive and discusses the findings of other researchers by giving their point of view towards a subject. It brings together the opinions of various scholars, to create one flowing idea on a particular topic. We discussed the role of sports on student development, and I realized that games go beyond what we see from an outside perspective. The semester has been of great help to my learning, in a bid to make me a better reader and a better writer.

The high impact practice involved incorporating knowledge learned in class into practice. It challenged us to go into the field and have engaging sessions that will bring a more profound understanding of a subject. Dialogue is quite essential, as it makes clear concepts that were misunderstood in class. One can also argue with other members during the session and thus, gaining a more in-depth understanding of the topic of discussion. Just like the direct meaning of the word, high impact practice means that one gets exposed to more excellent knowledge, than what they received in the classroom. I agree that it enhanced my experience. If I were to compare my level of understanding between now and when the semester began, I could attest that I have become better and more informed.

During the semester, I got a different perception of the composing process. Ever since I learned how to read and write, it has never occurred to me the importance of composing a narrative. Whether the composition is a single sentence, a blog, or a post on social media platforms, it requires the engagement of the thought process. I learned the complexity of this process, which brings out the sense of our communication. The composing process does not only involve written material but also engages our brain and emotions when we talk. This project gave me a different approach towards how the things I hardly pay attention to in my day to day activities.

I was excited by writing down our summaries. It tested how well we can write an article in our own words to relay some information. To be able to write a good review, one had to read through the primary material carefully, and then form opinions from it. A summary is not just rewriting sentences, but a method of letting the reader understand what an original writer wanted to put across, through a shortened version. In summary, on “Who Owns the Moon,” we did a video analysis that explained to the reader what the video addressed. A review lets the other person know what the video is about without having to watch the movie. By doing so, they gain an understanding of the various issues addressed in the material.

Looking back from where we began, I am more knowledgeable on various topics, and I have a different perspective towards the writing process. Most learning ends with an assignment to test the application of knowledge and skills learned in class. The assignment was among the last thing for this semester, and I am glad I proved that my semester learning had not been in vain. I have utilized every moment of learning to my advantage, which has made me better every day. The best part of it all is being able to pass the knowledge I have learned to others, and being conscious of my composing process.
