Practical connection with subjects
The course on information security will serve a great deal in my career in the future. For instance, I am now in a better position to describe what information security is all about. This kind of know-how is important as it will be useful in the course of coaching my junior staff who do not understand what the concept is all about in the various lectures that I may be called upon to facilitate. Besides that, the familiarization with the various information security concerns will help me in identifying such issues and dealing with them in the future. Apart from that, I am also better placed to ensure that the information environment is secure, and this is based on the fact that I am now knowledgeable on the various mechanisms that can be used to protect information security.
The other important aspect that I came across in the course, which will be useful in my future career, is that of privacy. In the face of increased technological innovations and inventions with the use of the internet being so widespread, privacy issues are of significance. Many people have reported to have fallen victims of hacking. Given that this was part of what was covered in the course, especially on how to prevent people from hacking into one’s network (Whitman, & Mattord, 2018), I will be well placed to advise and direct the organization that I will be working with on how to enhance safety from hackers.
Apart from that, part of the course content was about privacy regulations. We covered various privacy policies in the course of undertaking the course. With this as the case, I am now aware of what should be constituted in such policies. I believe that this know-how will serve a great deal in my future career, especially when I will be serving the role of a consultant in matters of information security. Moreover, I will be able to advise my clients on the policies that they should have in place to enhance safety and security.
Besides that, still on matters of policy making and the legal environment, in general, I am able to distinguish what constitutes criminal law and tort law. In this regard, I will be able to better apply these kinds of laws in my various undertakings. The application of this kind of laws will help in minimizing any liabilities on my side. This is because I will be able to distinguish that which is lawful or legal to that which is not.
Last but not least, I am also competent in the review of security controls framework in IT. This will be of importance to the organization that I will be working with as I will be able to ensure that there is tight IT security control. The effect of this is that it will ensure that there no unauthorized access to the systems of the organization. As a result, all the information and data stored in the organization’s database will be safe.
