The “Academy of International Business (AIB)” is among the best associations of researchers and professionals in matters relating to international policies as well as international business (AIB’s Mission-Vision-Values Statements, 2020). AIB was founded in 1959 and operated as a non-profit corporation in the United States. The headquarters of this organization is based at Michigan State University. It is vital to point out that AIB is an association that is devoted to empower and nurture a universal community of researchers specializing in generating, developing and sharing information in the field of international business research. Also, AIB has a keen interest in the creation and advancement of policy, practice and education in a bid to create an enabling environment for individuals who are intrigued into international business and policymaking.

The mission statement of AIB is “We create, nurture, and empower a global community of scholars focused on creating, advancing, and disseminating knowledge in international business research, education, policy, and practice.” That defines AIB’s fundamental purpose and what they strive to achieve in international business (AIB’s Mission-Vision-Values Statements, 2020). AIB incorporates inclusiveness, integrity, excellence and intellectual freedom as its core values in its processes and interaction with significant industry players.

Description of Conference

AIB holds one international conference for the entire organization annually. Besides, AIB organizes smaller meetings that talk about particular themes in specific regions all over the world. This year’s annual meeting will be held in Miami, Florida. The dates for this conference will be 2^nd to 6^th July. The theme of the conference will be “How Crossing Borders Changes Business” This theme explores the impact of international organizations expanding to other countries. It encompasses both the opportunities as well as the challenges experienced in the expansion. Three topics have attracted my attention concerning this conference. That includes the language factor, translation and the emerging issues going forward.

The language factor comes into play where a given international organization expands to other neighbouring countries or regions. In a bid to penetrate the market, the international organization should understand the business language of that particular region to be aware of the norms and expectations of the market in general (AIB 2020: Call for Papers, 2020). Therefore, the choice of language is of great importance to the success of the international organization.

The translation role plays a significant role in helping international businesses to blend in their new markets suitably. It is important to note that translation incorporates a lot of aspects where global businesses transformations and changes meet the local happenings and trends in business. Therefore, translation encompasses retaining what is valuable to the international organization that is expanding and transforming the objectives and purpose of the organization to gain acceptance in a new local environment. The role of translation raises several emerging issues such as the challenges involved in translation and loss of the intended meaning. Also, cross-language research should be accorded more attention to address the problems that translators face.

Following the information about this conference, international business entails various interesting aspects of the business. That includes the challenges involved when penetrating the local market and also how to communicate the objectives and purpose of international organizations to be accepted by the local business culture. Therefore, further research is needed to determine how to tackle these encounters.

Personal Application

Following the information discussed concerning the upcoming AIB conference, I have learnt that translation plays a significant role in international business. I have discovered that translators are accorded the responsibility of making sure that the desires and aims of the international organization that is expanding are well understood and accepted in the business environment of the local setting. This information will significantly help me in my career since I will explore the role of translation and be well conversant with it. That will help me in securing a job which needs the services of a translator in international business.
