- Introduction
Parking is a significant part in the transportation system. Moreover, it is a convenient way that people use to store vehicles, especially when they are not in use. According to the laws of transportation system all over the world demand that every institution should have a parking space so that people can be comfortable to access the building. However, with the increase of vehicles, especially the United States, there have been complains about the parking space. One of the institutions that are affected the most is the Universities because of the student’s population increase. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
- Summary of the Project
There has been a huge problem with the number of spaces that are needed in the university today. This is because of the high number of students that are increasing; thus, more vehicles are in need of a parking space. Due to low parking spaces, students and staff have a hard time parking, thus taking a lot of time to get to class. On the other hand, there have been different cases of accidents that are caused in the limited spaces of parking in the university, especially when someone is trying to reverse or try to park their car in a very small space. Many of the students park their vehicles outside the university because there is no space in the compound of the University.
With a good parking space, the university will grow in its productivity because students and the staff will not be wasting their time trying to park. University has a higher advantage because when students are on holiday, people from the community around can be parking their vehicles. Moreover, the university can create more modernized parking so that they can save time and make parking easier (Pham et al.). A good parking space will reduce the number of small accidents that are caused by careless mistakes because of limited space. As a result, more space such as 1 acre so that it can satisfy the needs of the students and staff. As a result, 1 acre of land can accommodate about 242 parking spaces. Of course, this assumes no turning lanes, and each parking space is right next to each other. If a field that is 180 feet by 242 feet, which is approximately 1 acre, is designed with six rows of parking spaces with each parking space being approximately 10 feet by 18 feet and the traffic lanes are 24 feet wide, approximately 150 spaces can be designed. There are three pairs of parking rows, each containing 48 spaces. The one-way traffic lanes are 12 feet wide and the two-way traffic lanes are 18 feet wide
- 1 Purpose of the Project
The purpose of this proposal is to research and analyze possible ways that can be used to create more space for parking in the university.
2.2 Aims & Objectives
- To enlarge parking space so that it can accommodate more cars.
- To develop a parking space for motorcycles, scooters, and bicycles that have safety locks.
III. To contrast new parking space.
- To reorganize and label parking lots such as students, academic, and visitors.
Description of change
Existing Parking Options
- There is parking space, but students with cars are so many.
- There are no ranks to park bicycles.
- There is parking for workers.
- There is no street parking.
- There is a decent parking supply in the school.
2.3 Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages
- The proposed parking will cater for the university’s students and staff due to the high rising number of personal vehicles.
- Enough parking space will be a great advantage for both students and staff because they will not have complication of running late to classes.
- The number of minor accidents caused by careless parking will be minimized and controlled because of the large space.
- The university can use the parking space to collect changes from the outsiders, especially if there is a function around the university.
Disadvantages
- The construction period will distract the normal activities in the universities.
- The cost of construction will be high.
- Timeline for Implementation
The implementation process will take almost one year, whereby there will be different activities that will take place each month. The first process will start in January, where the board of committee will be appointed. The work of the committee is to oversee the work and make sure that the budget is used accordingly. Generally, the construction process will take six to nine months until the completion of new parking space in the University.
- Supplies Needed
There is different kind of equipment that will be needed in the construction of parking space in the university. As a result, there are different types of measuring devices that could be used, such as a computer-aided digitizer, and hand scaling. Other equipment that will be needed include; demo Asphalt, demo street curb, strip topsoil/grass, silt fence, catch basin protection, dust control/water truck cement, rollers, bulldozers, gravel, 3-D Laser Screed, and paint.
- Proposed Budget
Generally, the cost of constructing parking in the university differ because of the different prices of construction material. However, there are normal standard prices of constructing a parking space per square foot. As a result, small parking lots in about 10 to 30 spaces are measured in 4000 to 10,000 square feet. This can cost between $5,000 and $20,000. On the other hand, the larger parking lots that are about 30 to 300 spaces are measured in 10,000 to 100,00 square feet. This can cost between $12,000 and $200,000 to construct (Filipovitch, Anthony, and Emmanuel). This cost can range in price from $0.90 to $2.50 per square foot. The size of the land that is needed for university parking is about 180 square feet, which is about 1 acre. The cost of building a parking space at the University will be $1,300,000.
- Approval
The university management will approve and make any decision that concerns the financial and the delegation of land to be used for increasing parking space.
