Reducing Immigration Restriction on the US Borders

Immigration refers to the process by which they move from country to country where they are not natives. Migration has existed since ancient. However, unlike the old times when the process of migration was less complicated, modern immigration has been restricted due to various reasons. Different countries have enacted various policies and laws to address the process of migration. Nowadays, the two main reasons why movement must be regulated are economical and national security reasons. Many countries feel that too many foreigners in their country will compromise their economy and also security. However, there are other reasons for the control of immigration. The United States of America has had a rich history of immigration since pre-colonial periods until now. IT is expected that the concern of immigration in the US will continue even longer. For this reason, the United States government has taken the move to establish different policies that govern the process of immigration into the country. The nature of the strategies is such that they restrict the entry of foreigners into the country. This article is a research paper that addresses the issue of immigration in the United States. Thesis: If the path towards legal residence was made more accessible for immigrants, would there be fewer people coming to the US illegally?

This discussion opens by taking an analysis of the effect of relaxed immigration policies in Germany that was established to allow workers from the Czech to enter into the job market of Germany. S study conducted by Dustmann reported that there was no significant effect of relaxed immigration restriction policies on the number of immigrants who entered in Germany (Dustmann et al., 2015). However, the relaxation of the restriction policies led to a slight increase in the number of immigrants in Germany. The slight increase of 4% would be insignificant. This report contradicts the hypothesis of the discussion question. The reason is that, according to the question, relaxed immigration policies should lower the rates of immigration in the United States.

Loosening policies restricting immigration will not lower the number of immigrants entering the United States. Instead, the movie will tend to increase the number of immigrants entering the country (Dustmann et al., 2015). The reason for this is that it relaxes the restriction creates a better environment for immigrants to move into the United States. The move creates a good deal that tends to motivate even those individuals who had not planned to move to the United States. As a matter of fact, the United States is much more stable than many economies in the world. It is the nature of every human being to try and settle in a calm and secure environment. The United States perfectly fits the description of such a situation. Most immigrants will be attracted to migrate to the United States.

For the above hypothesis to be correct, it takes more than one country to relax its policies on immigration. A move by the United States to establish free movement of immigrants across the will have a positive impact on reducing the number of immigrants. The argument here is that since all the other countries continue to maintain their restrictions, the influx of immigration will tend to move towards the place with fewer restrictions. As a result, the United States will experience an increased number of immigrants. However, the ideal situation that could see the number of immigrants reduce due to relaxed immigration policies is when all the other countries that are a target for immigration do the same thing. Technically, the effect of this is no different than now because the output of the plan is the same. It has no increase or decreases the number of immigrants in the country.

There are many reasons that cause people to migrate from their native countries to foreign countries. Some of these factors are economic, social, or political. There are immigrants who leave their countries under forced circumstances. Such immigrants are referred to a refugee. There is no effect of relaxing immigration restrictions on refugees. They will be there whether there are strict or loose restrictions on immigration. This means that the nature of policies applied to manage the rate of immigration does not exert any effect on refugee immigrants because they are forced to migrate by circumstances. They don’t just decide to migrate from their native land for leisure or exploration purposes. However, there is the other category of immigrants who move from their native land for personal reasons. Some migrate to search for better opportunities in life, some move of businesses, and others migrate to pursue their education. These types of immigrants are directly affected by the restrictions applied to immigration processes. There is a significant number of people who fail to migrate due to the restrictions applied by the immigration department in the United States. A slight relaxation of these restrictions will attract more of such immigrants because even those who not able to do so before can now afford to get into the United States. From this argument, it is clear that the abolition of immigration restrictions from the United States borders will tend to increase the number of immigrants is opposed to reducing the number.

The aspect of population growth is another factor that influences the issue of immigration in the United States. Most countries are experiencing population growth that the state cannot manage due to strained natural resources. The effect of this is poor living standards and inconvenience among the citizens in those countries. Such problems will motivate the citizens to think of moving to foreign countries in a move to seek better living standards and other opportunities. However, most people have not been able to do because of the immigration policies applied at the Unites State’s borders. The plans have the sole purpose of discouraging entry of foreigners into the United States. Therefore, it is logical that removal or eradication of such policies that restrict immigration will attract the entry of more foreigners into the United States. Currently, almost all countries that tend to the target zones of migration by foreigners have enacted laws that limit the number of immigrants into those countries. The overall effect these plans is that they reduce the total number of immigrants into the states in concern. The logical interpretation of this is that when only one country relaxes their immigration restrictions policies, all the mass of immigration that is denied immigration privileges by the other countries will shift towards the country that has few and more accommodating immigration policies. The same case applies to the United States. When the United States relax their policies on immigration, it will experience a massive influx of immigrants that could initially have moved to other foreign countries. But instead, they will prefer to change their destination to the United States because of the favorable immigration policies.

The modern world is experiencing economic challenges in many countries. This is a problem that is more dominant in third and second world countries. People are struggling with life due to a lack of employment and other types of job opportunities. The United States has established the right name among almost all countries. People have, therefore, acquired the belief that the United States is a land of opportunities and success. Surveys conducted among some of the developing countries indicate that the majority of the people would warmly welcome to decide to move to the United States, even though most of them do not know what is actually present there. However, most of these people find it challenging to move into the United States because of the strict restrictions that are exerted by the US Department of immigration. They claim some of the policies are very demanding in their procedures, and they discourage people from even think of moving to the United States. Following this, a slight change in the policies of immigration would attract a massive influx of immigrants into the country. It is therefore clear that abolishing immigration restriction policies does not help reduce the flow of immigrants into the country, but on the contrary, it attracts more immigrants into the United States.

In conclusion, immigration into the United States will remain to be an issue for the government. The reason is that the different environments from different countries force people to move out of their native lands as they search for better living environments. The United States is perceived to search for an environment, and therefore it attracts more immigrants from many foreign countries. Reducing the number of immigration means improvement of standards of living in the affected countries where most immigrants come from. Even applying restrictions on the borders does not help much because the number of illegal immigrants is rising daily.
