Reflection Discussion
One of the many takeaways from this course is about the relationship between nursing and politics. Nurses need to be involved in politics since they will contribute to strategies that influence policies in healthcare. Nurses are advocates for their clients, communities, and the country as a whole. They may be frustrated by unhealthy policies or regulations, both at the federal and state level. Therefore, nursing professionals should be directly involved in politics since they are direct caregivers who spend most of their time with patients and the community.
The most surprising thing in this course was the issue of politics in healthcare. Initially, I never thought that politics play such a significant role, especially among nursing professionals. When I realized that nurses form the largest group of healthcare professionals, I discovered that they are the ones who contribute to the ideas we have seen in Congress and Senate that aim at healthcare. As a result, nurses need to be actively involved in politics because they have first-hand information about their clients and healthcare in general.
By taking this course, I have learned different ways of transferring knowledge into my professional field. One of the strategies is to join a professional organization. Many professional bodies in the country enhance the sharing of ideas among professionals. Therefore, I will join a professional nursing agency that will link me with many nursing professions, especially those who have practiced nursing for long. Through this strategy, I will learn how to deal with policy-making and contribute to ideas that will help shape my profession for the better. Finally, I will be actively involved, particularly in assisting my thoughts on political forums.

Excellent post, Thompson! I agree with you that healthcare relates to politics, especially when nurses are involved in healthcare policies and protocols. I think the most surprising issue that has not been considered for long is about healthcare being one of the top political issues. Nurses must be part of political activism to protect their profession from unhealthy policies. Health reforms have attracted a lot of political opinions as far as nurses are concerned. As a result, nurses are unique in shaping healthcare policies since they are the largest group of health care providers. Besides, they serve as advocates for communities, patients, and the nursing profession.

Hi, Mantilla! After reading your discussion regarding the reflection for the course, I have also noted that our levels of education play a crucial role in the delivery of quality care and patient safety. As a nurse, I have more activities than just the provision of quality care to my clients. As a patient advocate, I can help my patients make the required informed decisions concerning their health. One way of doing this is by enabling them to navigate through complex medical systems. Also, I can act as a patient advocate by making ethical decisions and translating some medical terms to my clients.
