Overview

As I mark the end of the course NUR3805, I must say that I have a lot to reflect on. Through the course, we have covered different facets of the discipline of nursing, which has equipped me with the knowledge that I could use in delivering safe and high quality healthcare services, which are more cost-friendly, hereby improving the healthcare outcomes across the health care industry. From the course, I have gained information on the trends and issues that have an impact on the nursing profession in the contemporary world that could affect healthcare delivery. I have also learned the responsibilities and values that come with this profession, and I can use clinical reasoning, professional knowledge, as well as evidence-based practices in delivering healthcare services.

Classwork

Almost all the knowledge I have on this course has come from my classwork. In class, the lecturer gave us a lot of theoretical information, which has prepared me to deliver quality care to patients. Classwork gives professional knowledge, which is the basis of learning. I have learned the responsibilities of nursing towards patients. I know now that a nurse is the closest staff to the patient and is determines the effectiveness of the medical interventions which are offered to patients. Thus, I know that I am expected to provide services based on the professional knowledge that I acquired in class. I was also able to identify my strengths as a nurse, which would help me in handling my patients. I know that I can use my empathy, and trustworthy characters in the hospital set up to understand my patients and to be honest about their conditions, which would improve in improving service care. Also, in class, we did an assessment, which helped us discover our emotional integrity, which helped me realize the need for emotional strength in the hospital. I have learned the need to have the ability to separate work life and personal life to ensure that my personal life does not interfere with my professional life.

Personal research and readings

Working on my assignment gave me an opportunity to undertake personal research, where I was able to gain more information on the course. Reading also allowed me to understand the concepts which I hadn’t understood in my classes. More importantly, I was able to do deeper research on my own. One aspect I discovered through my own was the nursing intervention through telehealth. I read that nurses could come up with programs that can be used to monitor a patient’s conditions and help them with their situations. One example includes a messaging device, which nurses can key in the information that can guide obesity people to choose their diet and encourage them to work out. I found this information quite interesting, and if given a chance, I could implement it in hospitals to promote healthy living among our patients.

Fieldwork

During the course, I was able to work in a professional setting, where I got the chance to put into practice all that I learned in class. I was able to find solutions for various patient’s conditions without having to consult my supervisors. My strengths, which I discovered as we did our personal assessment, were quite useful in my fieldwork. I was able to connect with my patients on a personal level, which made them comfortable and felt they could relate to me. This eased the process of service delivery. I got to interact with different patients from different cultures, which taught me the urgency to be open-minded as a nurse, and avoid biasness when delivering services. In the clinics, I got to understand the importance of standardization in healthcare. My supervisor demonstrated to us the dangers of using short cuts to providing care. This taught me the essence of following hospital policies all the time.

Teacher’s comments

One thing that I can say has helped me throughout the course is my lecturer’s participation. My lecturer has been kind enough to provide feedback for all the assignments I handed over. Most importantly, the feedback was customized and addressed problems each one of u faced in writing our assignment. This has shaped me as I was able to spot exactly where my weaknesses are and work towards improving them. I can outrightly say that perfecting my knowledge on this course has been promoted by my lecturer and I am grateful/

Peer discussions

The course has also involved a lot of discussions, especially on the online platform. This has also made the course easy to learn because, as we discuss with peers, we were able to exchange ideas and content, which sharpened our understanding and skills. Learning from each other encourages one to read harder to get something to share, and I really enjoyed the discussion forums.

Conclusion

The course has been quite enjoyable and informative. I now feel empowered and confident to handle cases that involve the nursing discipline. I know that I can now use my skills in improving care delivery. NUR3805 has given me the urge for higher education to develop my skills in care delivery to ensure that my patients receive the best care that is safe and cost-friendly all in the quest to improve patient outcomes.
