I decided to focus on the need to provide private housing to drug addicts in need of treatment. I decided to focus on the topic due to the need to provide favorable conditions to speed up the drug addict’s recovery process. The provision of a safe environment plays a major role in addressing the post-rehabilitation mental issues.
I found it challenging to handle the drug addicts due to the post-treatment effects. As such, it was hard to provide quality housing facilities since most of the individuals tend to be unruly, thus curtailing their rehabilitation prospects. However, it was encouraging to learn that the government is much willing to support drug addicts. As such, competent measures have been laid down to ensure quality services are provided to speed up their rehabilitation process.
The project made me feel differently as a citizen since I am obligated to support the drug recovery process. Hence, the project made me realize the need to participate in communal activities such as helping the drug addicts during the recovery process. Besides, as a social worker, the project made me feel different in the way I should help others cope with their daily lives. As such, I developed mechanisms vital in understanding the experiences of the drug addicts and the need to provide private housing during their recovery process. As a result, I feel more powerful in the way I should handle drug addicts as they undergo their recovery process.
I think that the advocacy event was effective as it sought to empower students while on campus to provide solutions to environmental issues. The advocacy event thus provided a themed undertaking directed towards understanding the urgency to provide private housing for the drug addicts undergoing recoveries. The positives from the advocacy event include developing a passionate outlook towards the recovery process and improving the quality of other peoples’ lives. However, the negatives from the advocacy event include legal confrontations, loss of funding, and technological risks while undertaking social work. However, I believe the advocacy event was vital in improving my confidence and self-esteem while undertaking such a critical activity.
My goals moving forward with the advocacy on the issue includes:
- Development of improved strategies to prevent drug use and its repercussions.
- Identifying the social causes of drug use and addiction
- Develop improved treatment to persons with substance-related abuse thus sustaining a speedy recovery process
