Decision making is a crucial aspect of a business. For business success, top management must make the right decision. The paper is a report of a reflection of chapter seven, decision making, and creativity, which identifies a concept that relates to me most, a reason for choosing the concept, and explains the insights from the concept and the probable application in the future.

The chapter emphasized on how emotions can affect decision making. Since intuitions and feelings are inevitable, I got curious about how managers can mitigate the impacts emotions may have on the decision-making process. Interestingly, it became clear that emotions lead to preferences that may either guide the decision making in the right or wrong way. For example, studies indicate that integral emotions may guide the right decisions as well as wrong decisions. A practical example is a case where a student will make donations to former schools, which represent the right decision. In contrast, a person would disregard flying to driving, which is riskier, representing a wrong decision resulting from integral emotion. As such, decision-makers have a crucial task of ensuring that intuition does not lead to negative decision making.

Insights from the Topic and Way of Application in Life

The chapter sensitized on the need to do a keen analysis of options available before making the decision. Amid emotions, it is always essential for a decision-maker to explore the advantages and disadvantages of any decision made. Allowing emotions to preoccupy mind may dearly lead to making wrong decisions, which may bring down an organization that took years to build in one day. For my career ambitions, understanding the impact of emotions on decisions is vital. I would wish to be a human resource manager who would not fire employees out of emotions. Regardless of one’s feelings, it is always crucial to make the right course of action. The chapter was critical to shaping my career in decision making.

In sum, the chapter was insightful, as it expounded my knowledge of how emotions affect decision making. Getting to learn these impacts proved vital for my career in human resource management. I will undoubtedly make decisions on merit but not just out of emotions.
