The period between the 14th and 17th centuries is referred to the transition period from middle ages to modernity. The period is commonly referred to as the Renaissance and was characterized by the development of European artifacts and inventions. The critical advancements in the renaissance period include the invention of the print technology, drawing, patent law and the building of fortresses. The renaissance period hosts several developments in technology that include mining and metallurgy, iron furnace, and smelting to improve metal work.
The Renaissance period began with its move to the north of Europe. The development of northern Europe was motivated by the growth of cities and more trading areas. Also, wealthy merchants were present to support artists in developing art. The unification of the government of England was an essential tool in the effectiveness of the developments witnessed during the renaissance period. The war in Italy led to the fleeing of the reach monarchs to the North. The monarchs later supported renaissance by financing finance: “the monarch authorities were determined to improve technology during the renaissance period…,” Delanty, G. (2019). Several developments in science and technology mark the renaissance period. Mathematics and science were the first inventions in the renaissance period as writers used letters and algebra in the presentation of ideas: “The renaissance period was associated with dramatic improvement in atomic structure and technology…,” Zhang, Y. (2016). Scientists were keen to develop theories about the universe and the interpretation of nature in the Renaissance period. Significant developments were also witnessed in the field of anatomy and cartography. However, the most significant developments that affected the Europeans were printing technology. The printing technology allowed writers to use vernacular rather than Latin, which was dominant during the period. The mass printing of writings such as the bible allowed people to interpret the texts individually. The development of technology in the renaissance period was associated with the authorities who were trying to make their leadership strategies effective. The authorities were responsible for financing several technological advancements especially were the authorities expected to gain more power.
Generally, the dramatic spread of renaissance can be attributed to the fast growth of cities and the significant support of monarchs. Also, the renaissance in the North was associated with the production of more celebrated writers, artists, as well as scholars willing to spread the ideas governing renaissance. Different authorities largely financed the development of technology with the hope of getting more power. The renaissance period materialized with the introduction of the printing and the use of vernacular to help in the spread of Renaissance ideas and improve the learning offered to the people during the period.
