The road to healthcare dates has been well-traveled, after the war, every administration to some point supported changes and improvement of the healthcare system. The first attempt at healthcare reforms in the cold war era occurred during the administration of President Harry S> Truman. His efforts were aimed at modernizing and increasing the number of hospitals. The next significant reforms came during President Eisenhower’s administration during the cold war. It introduced the Forand bill, which provided health insurance cover. Its predecessor regimes further placed healthcare as a top priority. However, significant reforms in Public healthcare services came from the Bush administration, which aimed at modernizing the Medicare program. The Obama administration shaped the way for reproductive healthcare through the endorsement of the Obama health bill. It has since taken root in the new Trump administration.

Consequently, women’s civil rights groups were also stepping up to ensure that all women had access to good reproductive health care. African-American women also stood up to fight for equal access to reproductive health care for black women in the United States. Elaine Brown was the first woman to chair the Black Panther Party. During her tenure, she acclaimed that a woman’s sole purpose was to have children. She, therefore, pressed the governed to make reproductive health a major priority. She also included a platform for black women’s reproductive rights. Then came Khiara Bridges, who was a self-acclaimed feminist and activist. She wrote a book called Reproductive Race that focused on promoting abortion and prenatal health care assistance.

The American Federation of Labor was the first to engage the government in healthcare reforms. They wanted the government to insure all workers. They spent much of their energy persuading doctors to support their legislation to no avail. In the wake of the post-war era, the Congress of Industrial Organizations took leadership roles in the struggle of health care reform. They were able to ensure that the medical insurance program was financed by payroll taxes, a factor that shaped the way for reproductive healthcare. Since then, major civil rights activism campaigns like the Universal Health Care Action Network (UHCAN) and the World Health Association have played a significant role in promoting reproductive health for women across the world.

The evolution of reproductive healthcare has led to the emergence of new reproductive healthcare challenges. These have had a direct impact on healthcare professionals. First, there have been significant reforms in reproductive rights.  Many modern families are choosing autonomy over their bodies when selecting the time to begin their families. They have resulted in birth control methods and other means, this affected the contextual birth cycle. Further challenges such as HIV infections among mothers has been a matter of great concern. We have had a difficult time making sure that these mothers do not spread the disease to the unborn child. Similarly, drug and substance abuse among young mothers has resulted in stillbirth pregnancies, which many have become fatal. Cancer has been another rising challenge in reproductive health. Its two common types include breast and cervical cancers. Healthcare associations are battling cancer cases in low and middle-income countries. These are the arising trends in reproductive health care.

In conclusion, reproductive health care is a critical component in enhancing our existence as human beings. Women around the world should be educated on reproductive health and given access to quality health care.
