What is the beauty of the monster created by Dr Frankenstein’s despite the rejection and abandonment of his creation?
The monster’s beauty despite the disasters caused by rejection and abandonment in Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein.’
Although ambition and creation seem to be the causes of the disasters in Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein,’ it is rejection that leads to catastrophe in the story. The need for vengeance has led to sorrow, deaths, and remorse seen in characters in the story. Denial plays a significant role in all the wrong decisions that most of the characters in the book make. The monster kills friends and family of its creator to get revenge for the rejection that he faced earlier on in his life. Despite all this, this is a story of the monster’s need for another ‘monster’ to relate with and have a connection that brings the catastrophic tale unto Dr Frankenstein’s family. This is mainly a story of a monster who is having a crisis of identity caused by the father issues that he is going through. All this is just brought forth by the disdain seen in the father’s eyes when he realizes that his creation is not a ‘beauty’ which results to the massive rejection and stigmatization that the monster undergoes. Among some of the fascinating facts in the book is that the monster’s only friend is a blind man. This shows the rhetoric satire of the story as the man cannot see the ugliness of the beast that he is said to be.
As the story goes on, the monster then confronts Dr Frankenstein as he seeks a companion, i.e. a bride, whom he can relate with since he was very lonely. The bride was also to be made from the many body parts and sewn together as the monster was, hence a factor of similarity which would then provide him with a person whom he can relate to. This shows a humanistic side in the beast since it is seen that he only wants a person whom he feels he can relate to as any other human does. The monster’s need to feel ‘humanly’ by connecting with another is one of the factors that makes him a marvel and singles him out for being a monster. With Dr Frankenstein presented with two options of either making him a bride or the monster destroying his life by going after the people close to him, Dr Frankenstein goes for the latter option.
The monster creature in Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ kills William first. The monster in chapter 16 of the book was in the wood sleeping when he saw the child. He wants to make the child his friend, and as soon as the creature learns that the kid is Frankenstein’s child, he decides to kill him. Frankenstein being its creator and then rejecting him, drives the beast to kill the kid. William is the first victim. The result is a sad story with all that happened, but it is a valuable lesson of how people should be treated. Instead of seeing the beauty in people by acknowledging their humanistic values and not judging them by what makes them different is a lesson that should be learned by everyone. Everyone deserves a chance, and we are all beautiful in our way.
