Researching Wireless Signal Interferences
Selecting the right location for a wireless access point is critical in ensuring an optimal connection to the network. A strategic location for an AP depends on size, shape, and needs within an infrastructure. A fundamental rule in installing APs is to place them where Wi-Fi networks will be used optimally. Thus, it makes better sense to place an AP below a ceiling at about the center of the room. At such a location, the network signal strength would be high in every portion of the room. Installing an AP at a corner of the room increases the vulnerability of the signal strength in other parts of the room. Exposure to network barriers is also high when APs are placed at a centralized point.
Various items can course communication problems for a wireless network. Such items cause interference that can limit network performance and availability. Although sometimes interferences cannot be prevented or avoided, some can fully be controlled. Items such as building materials, electronic devices, and other wireless networks can cause interference. APs should not be placed close to building materials such as brick, concrete, and other dense materials since they are infamous for blocking network signals. Electromagnetic signals, especially microwaves, also limit the strength of wireless signals. The availability of several other wireless networks might limit the Wi-Fi transmissions. Thus, it is critical to consider these factors before installing an AP.
