Response to Jill
Hello Jill! I love the way you have articulated your views and opinion regarding the questions asked. I concur with you that as a registered nurse, it is within your province of jurisdiction to assess patients to take the vital signs for proper medication.
Further, I agree with you that your duty entails carrying out lab tests, there is a need, based on the condition of the patient as well as dressing the wounds of the patients: it also a good insight to have learned that as a nurse, your responsibility also includes patient education. I find this insightful and motivating at the same time. However, I find it quite odd that you are not registered with any professional body! It is one of the most important not only in the nursing profession but also for other professionals since such entities assist their members with placement as well as in terms of protecting their members. I would advise that you register with any of the professional bodies like the American Nurse Association (ANA), Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association, or any other relevant authority. In light of nursing research, I would advise that it is part and parcel of the role of every professional nurse to engage in regular research work in their respective fields of specialization. In light of evidence-based public health practices having an in-depth understanding of emerging issues and trends is imperative for effective service delivery. In the same vein, I would also like to suggest that as a trained professional whose actions directly affect the patients and their families, you have an obligation to contribute to healthcare policy and practices. Otherwise, I agree with you that the job description is in tandem with your duties and responsibilities.
