Review on “Child As Metaphor: Colonialism, Psy-Governance, and Epistemicide.”
Many people in Canada are suffering, as a result of being ignored by those in power. The essay articulates on being a child is equated to showing the real life situation experienced by the rationalized or colonized people .Compared to children they are perceived as disabled and people who are mad .The authors MILLS, CHINA, and BRENDA A. LEFRANÇOIS. In “Child As Metaphor: Colonialism, Psy-Governance, and Epistemicide.” use the metaphor of child to signify the white supreme and colonialism. This idea of how the government is underdeveloped and putting people under poor circumstance in life. Shown by the metaphor as child. The child like metaphor show how the people are suffering by being treated in inappropriate manner. There are some relationships which are complex among the adult and children mostly being oppressive of specific groups in the society making them feel colonized and disabled.
Using the metaphor as child justifies all exploitations. This calls for intervention from all relevant authorities and the society towards standing to protect those who behave childlike. It is important to have the disabled or the colonized people to feel empowered and identified so as to feel equal with others in the society ( MILLS & LEFRANÇOIS ,2018.503-513). It generally help to fight against the western supremacy and any kind of colonization .The metaphor call for united and one strong society that is protected and live in peace and harmony.
Many indigenous people suffer from depending mentality .Most of the people represented by the metaphor as child lack intreprenueal instincts. Depending on the government or help from other will lower ones dignity. The author explains this using the child development from childhood to adulthood. This highlights how the poor and marginalized should be empowered to move away from their own created problems. Post-colonial theory is presenting children as metaphor .showing how we are affected by this metaphor. Child colony people are represented as colonies.as per the theory it legitimizes colonialism and modernilty.we have bigger relationship between children and the state of being under colony.( MILLS & LEFRANÇOIS ,2018.513-517).For instance the authors quotes nelson Mandela who compares racialization with South African prison system. Black men are forced to wear shots and referred as boys.
To Frame population as childlike shed light on the world, definitely creates the project aimed at development and civilization through childen.Futher there are aids and support programs initiated to benefit the poor disabled or marginalized communities in the society. It is funny that even in the current day the indigenous people in Canada experience colonialism. Cultural ignorance, racism and marginalization child protection systems developed ( MILLS & LEFRANÇOIS ,2018.519-524). The authors are clearly showing that, through Infantilisation of the global south and the fourth world .The poor and disrespected people are identified and their rights are granted through different human rights and acts.
In summary, the article, Child as metaphor is, of great help to everyone in the world. I believe that, it is source of wisdom to many authorities, the poor, the disabled and the marginalized societies from all over the world. It is high time that everyone treated as child should change their mentality, understand their purpose and roles in the society. The government and other authorities will definitely work with every community inclusively without discrimination.
