  1. INTRODUCTION

To start with, there are a number of words that today may rise the nerves when we hear someone speak about them. At one point in our lives, we must have gone through or experienced bullying. This is to mean that we might have not experienced bullying ourselves but have close friends who have gone through the same. As a matter of fact, bullying is no longer a new thing but something that has been there for decades now. There are kids who still undergo bullying in this era, which is even worse than ever before. From recent research, it has been found that 1 out of 4 kids in a year will experience bullying while other hundreds will witness it taking place.

As from the current situation, the use of technology and especially social media can help reach a wide audience and advocate against bullying. The Ad Council together with YouTube Stars recently teamed up and launched an awareness towards bullying campaign. It is meant to create public awareness on the different ways in which bullying can take place, and how to avoid it. This is a good initiative that will enlighten the world on what to do in case of bullying, or in the best case, how to avoid it completely. The campaign lays emphasis on the role that parents play on the lives of their children in order to ensure they do not undergo bullying.

  1. CONTEXT AND DESCRIPTION OF ADVERTISEMENT

The Ad Council has existed since the 1940s. It has had significant campaigns since that time that have shaped our societies. For instance, in the 1983, they initiated the Drunk Driving Prevention campaign. Our roads would experience uncalled for accidents arising from drunk drivers as well as bullying of any manner such as unnecessary overlapping or switching of lanes. As such, this was a move to bring sanity to the roads. Historically this add is currently ongoing in in the verge of creating more awareness on how most kids survive in their day to day lives, and as mentioned before, bullying is no longer a new thing in everyone’s faces but it has been taking its case for more than ever. A recent one, I Am A Witness Campaign, brought together key companies in a move to change the silent majority who are bullied and end up not reporting the ordeals.

An example such as the one mentioned above, (I Am A Witness Campaign) was covered by various media outlets such as the Disney/ABC Television Group, and Slingshot. Since the Ad Council’s inception, I believe it has been given enough media coverage, both in electronic and print media over time since it is for a noble cause.

Ad council has been in existence since 1942. It has had significant partnerships with film production companies such as Disney and Warner Bros in different campaigns such as one in which they were creating awareness on child obesity. Some of these campaigns are aimed at getting funds to facilitate the war to buy and sell warfare bonds. Over the last 76 years, the ad council has been successful in many ad campaigns and one of the reasons is that the care for any little life if not a simple one.th best example of an ad that the ad council did was that of the “crying Indian campaign”, “McGruff the Crime Dog” among others.

The campaign is the first to create an anti-bullying emoji adopted by Unicode and natively available on nearly all smartphones across the world. The recent technologies and social media platforms make so much use of emoji’s and memes. These are things that we connect easily with really life experiences, hence their adopted use in the Ad Council. At the same time, the ad “am an eye witness on teen bullying anticipation” is basically a striking statement to least mention it. The paint of an eye shows how the creator of this ad uses imagery to express the statement over it. Its black painting all over with only a white paint of an eye literally shows how much concern people put on this particular matter.

 

  • ANALYSIS OF RHETORICAL APPEALS
  • Reasoning (Logos)

This particular ad does uses an appeal to make a reasoning, this is actually done by presenting an eye on a black surround. This is to show that indeed to show that we should not accept watching children being bullied. Another thing is that, this logo also shows that watching other peoples back is actually everyone’s challenge and we should not allow bullying to take place anymore.

 

  • Character (Ethos)

Bearing in mind that we all need the best to our families specifically our children who are the most vulnerable individuals in this matter, the author lays down such issues that are currently on going in the globe in regards to bullying and he further goes ahead to give the precise recommendations in respect to finding an everlasting solution over this problem.

 

 

  • Emotion (Pathos)

 

The pathos of this ad where the author paints the eye in white in a dark surrounding trying to show how bad this bullying problem really is and how it affects the bigger percentage of the whole world’s population as mentioned before that 1 out of 4 suffer under this problem in a year. If you take a look at the phrase am an eye witness, you can tell that it is indeed a preventive phrase trying to warn those who do this particular acts of inhumanity to others and showing them that the word is no longer sleeping over the matter but instead everyone is the others keeper. As we all know, when one hears the word bullying he or she gets emotional, so the author is trying as much as possible to bring the emotions inside very person and putting them into action thus helping many who are helpless as far as this matter is concerned.

 

  1. CONCLUSION

To sum up the paper, it is quite clear that, bullying is indeed a menace to the current word regaining the rising number of bullying cases globally today. Sometimes you can find that ads do not really say much but in this case it is evident that this ad does tells much in respect to the levels with which bullying has taken today. As from the title of the ad, am an eye witness the author is so passionate and he or she needs us to get to out feet’s to surpass this bullying matter that has existed for ages. Lastly, it is every adult’s responsibility to teach the younger generations on the dangers of bullying as well as how they should take a stand upon the moment with which they will come upon any bullying scene.
