Rites of passage

Every culture has ritual ceremonies to signify the transition of an individual from childhood to adulthood called rites of passage. Circumcision and isolation are two common rites of passage in Africa. In a circumcision ceremony, boys or girls come together, invited members of the community drink, eat, sing, and dance to traditional songs to encourage the candidates. Isolation is common among the Maasai community, whereby young men go into the forest for about six months and perform many rituals for them to transition to another age set.

Assimilation and pluralism

Assimilation is a process whereby distinct groups of people merge and share a common culture (Goodman, 2019). It affects the rites of passage because of the erosion of some rituals. Pluralism is a situation whereby groups maintain their cultural identities in a society where there are many groups. It has a positive impact on the rites of passage in that it encourages continuity of the rituals.

Attachment styles

Adults tend to have four attachment styles. First, a secure style characterized by a positive view of yourself and others. Second, anxious pre-occupied/insecure, whereby individuals have a negative view of themselves but a positive view of others. Third, dismissive-avoidant characterized by a positive view of oneself and a negative view of others. Lastly, fearful-avoidant characterized by fluctuating views of oneself and others.

Most effective style

The most effective one is the secure style, given that one feels confident and hold a positive view of others. Such individuals have no problem depending on others or other people depending on them. Such people see a mutual relationship making the relationships secure and long-lasting.

Types of attraction

According to Goodman (2019), the five major types of attraction are sexual, romantic, physical, emotional, and aesthetic. The sexual attraction is whereby one sees the other person sexually. Romantic attraction involves the desire to build a long-lasting relationship, which may or may not include the sexual aspect. Physical attraction is the desire to be with others physically and be shown love and affection. Emotional attraction involves being around people whom you can share what you feel. Aesthetic attraction happens whereby one sees a person and feels he or she is attractive. For example, when people come across celebrities.

Most effective attraction

The most effective attraction is physical attraction. Having people around you who love and care about you is critical. Sometimes it could be family, friends, or colleagues. Lasting emotional and romantic relationships also come through physical attraction.
