Role of pictures in passing information
Countries all over the world are concerned about the safety of their citizens. The smooth running of nations can only be guaranteed when its citizens feel secure and are free in their country. Some situations, however, jeopardize a country’s security and affect its economy negatively for example terrorism. Years back, members of an Islamic terrorist group executed a deadly attack in the United States where thousands were killed by crashing airplanes in the Pentagon and the world trade Centre. Words alone may not be enough to describe how intense a situation is. Photos play a massive role in conveying messages and help in better understanding of the subject matter.

Image by Robert Giroux gives memories of the terrorist attack that happened on 9th September 2001. The impact of the attack is observed as a catastrophic one since fire is seen consuming a tall building that had thousands of occupants (Giroux). Thousands suffered physical injuries and psychological trauma. Survivors and people related to those who lost their lives can get closure since the impact is observable in the images. The image also convinced well-wishers to act and come to the rescue of Americans. From the picture, businesses surrounding the area suffered substantial financial losses and lost a large portion of their workforce, and people are left without homes and offices. Social and economic losses are vivid in this image.
The image emphasizes the direct impact of the catastrophe and does not bring into detail, the emotional aspect of the situation. The photographer did not capture the reactions of people who witnessed the event. The image is also a reflection of thousands of pictures taken during that moment to describe the situation. These images bring a clear view of the incidence and the impact it had on the country as a whole. Although the image is meant to communicate, it brings memories that people would rather forget. Victims may not be comfortable with the model as it would remind them of the trauma they went through. The image also calls for education on rescue missions so that in case another situation comes up it is handled effectively to reduce the impact. Since the September 2001 attack, Americans learned a lesson and became more cautious. The image of Donald Trump, the sitting president of the United States captured by Christopher of Getty images clearly shows that Americans were more than determined in the fight against terrorism. Trump is stern when addressing the issue of extremists during his presidential campaigns. Trump lays out his plan in fighting terrorists in America to make it a secure country (Gregory). Although Trump’s techniques appear to be controversial amongst the Islamic states, they will help in reducing the menace if strictly adhered to. Efficient responses in times of crisis have been put in place to seal the loopholes to prevent further attacks. If American citizens implement the policies laid down, the United States will be free from terrorists’ attacks. As a result of the horrifying incident, Americans are more aggressive in the war against terrorism not only in their territory but across the world.
Images are a reflection of the surroundings. Creativity in capturing moments is required to bring out the intended accurate picture. Icons are necessary for conveying messages as they add more to words and serve as memories. Photographers, therefore, need to be keen while shooting moments.
