Role Of Technology In Airport Security
Research Topic
Technology has played a crucial role in improving security in airports. In the wake of terrorism, in-flight disruptions, smuggling, and other security threats, technology is instrumental in guaranteeing the safety of passengers before they board planes and while in the airport premises. Henceforth, the research will discuss the role of technology in enhancing security in airports and the benefits.

Almazroui, S., Wang. W., Zhang, G. (2016). Imaging Technologies in Aviation Security. Society for Science and Education, 3 (4). Doi: 10.14738/aivp.34.1433.
Almazroui et al. (2016) discuss the importance of screening in airport security. The researchers found that automated detection with the use of technologies like X-rays and CT scanners are useful in alerting officials to security threats. However, the researchers add that technology should be combined with human intervention for optimum output. Accordingly, the authors make this research trustworthy given that Almazroui and Wang work in the School of Engineering at the University of Sussex while Zhang works for the National University of Defense Technology. Similarly, this article is useful to my research because it lists the technological tools used in airport security and their effectiveness. However, this text has a weakness as it does not exhaustively mention the advantages of the technologies used in airports. The article is relevant to my research. Karoly, S. (2017). Technologies to counter aviation security threats. AIP Conference Proceedings 1898, 050002. Retrieved from https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5009231.
Karoly is convinced that technology will help combat security threats like terrorism in airports. He mentions the benefits of existing techniques like advanced imaging technology (AIT) and Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) in reducing terrorist activities. Kalory also points out technologies that airports can use to increase security and avert future threats. Klory’s work is trustworthy in that, he has many publications that discuss security in airports. Additionally, his findings align with the purpose of my research by focusing on several inventions and their benefits. This article is very detailed on tools used in screening, which is a strength. Kalory’s work is useful for my research.
Liscouski, R., McGann, W. (2016). The Evolving Challenges for Explosive Detection in the Aviation Sector and Beyond. CTC Sentinel, 9 (5). Retrieved from https://ctc.usma.edu/the-evolving-challenges-for-explosive-detection-in-the-aviation-sector-and-beyond/.
Liscouski and McGann (2016) expound on the technology used to combat terrorism in airports. The authors illustrate the urgency of such discoveries using case studies like the Somali mid-air bombing. State-of-the-art technologies will detect terrorist activities before they happen, boosting security. Liscouski and McGann have a previous publication on safety in the aviation sector, and the two are experts in this field. Consequently, their work is believable. This text supports my research as it explains the value of technology in airport security. The source also has strong points like the use of case studies and an in-depth explanation of the security systems. Nonetheless, the research wanders to other industries like music and sports, which are irrelevant to the study. Liscouski and McGann have an exemplary analysis of airport security.
Murphy, D. (2019). Six Ways Airports Are Improving Safety. Digitalist Magazine. Retrieved from https://www.digitalistmag.com/customer-experience/2019/08/27/6-ways-airports-are-improving-safety-06200370.
Murphy’s article outlines the different technology tools used to improve security in airports. Murphy also adds the advantages of each gadget, for instance, the use of countering drones, which prevent drones from entering restricted areas. Murphy’s work is trustworthy because she is a specialist in cybersecurity, ethical hacking projects, and renowned firms. The article is useful to my research because it illustrates the importance of technology in security at airports. Murphy’s work is simple to understand and is direct. The details are also relevant because the content was published in 2019. However, the source is a website, and the credibility could be questioned as it is not a scholarly source. Murphy’s work applies to my work.
Sakano, R., Obeng, K., & Fuller, K. (2016). Airport security and screening satisfaction: A case study of the US. Journal of Air Transport Management, 55, 129-138. Doi: 10.1016/j.jairtraman.2016.05.007.
Sakano et al. (2016) examine the perception of safety by travellers and how it is connected with screening experiences. The study concludes that there was a positive connection between screening and perception of safety in public transit. Customers felt safe to be in airports because screening identified possible security threats. Sakano and his colleagues have reliable information because they come from diverse fields like marketing, economics, and federal aviation. Their combined efforts in the research lead to a comprehensive analysis of security and customer satisfaction. Moreover, the paper is viable to my research because it examines the benefits of screening, a technological feature, in boosting security, which is within the scope of my research. The major weakness of this article is that it relies on secondary data, which was collected in 2009. This impacts the relevance of the study on present issues.
