Summary of the change.

My main problem is procrastination. It is a major problem in my life and causes a lot of stress and pressure in my life when deadlines, in college, and out when times are up to submit work given. For a long time, I have observed that whenever I have a task, I start the work in a jovial mood. However, this enthusiasm wanes since I find myself watching movies or playing video games. Fridays and weekends are even worse since I go out with friends to a party. With time running out, I always end up with accumulated work. The situation sometimes becomes worse when I have other tasks before I complete the previous one since now I have to deal with more work in a short period. With less time to do the work , I always end up locking myself in the house to do the work, sacrificing sleep, socialization, cooking since I have to depend on restaurant deliveries. Eating restaurant deliveries causes health problems since I have allergies, and I always end up seeking medical attention, wasting more time in the process. I also have a hard time taking medication due to immersing myself in video games. Sometimes I forget medication when I am out partying. The pressure to finish the works causes psychological problems in my life. Sometimes my bosses complain about the quality of the work. A solution to this problem solves many other issues in my life.

Proposed solution

The solution to this problem is to manage my time effectively. The work that I get assigned, though challenging, is not hard; it requires time to do it. Also, most of the work I am assigned so far needs doing it over a stretched period rather than a couple of days.

Steps involved

  1. When assigned work, save some hours the same day to go over the work. Grasp what is required of me to do the work and source all the materials needed.
  2. Plan for the work according to the given schedule, hoping to finish the work some days to the deadline. Plan how to do the work on a day to day basis. How much work I intend to do in a day and make sure to do the work I have assigned myself on that day. Allocate enough time each day to do the job.
  3. Since I now know the number of hours to allocate to work, I can “start” the work an hour or two before. Start means that first, I assign an hour earlier to playing video games before the real work. Such a strategy will remove the pressure to play video games after I start the assignment.
  4. After playing video games, I can now immerse myself in my work. For hours allocated, I intend to have breaks in between for a snack and putting my mind off the job.
  5. During Fridays and weekends, I have to reduce the number of hours I will be putting in my work since I know I will not be available during weekends. On Fridays, I intend to wake up early to do the job. This will free me in the evening to go out with my buddies. For Saturday and Sunday, I can allocate the two days a day’s work or half of what I do in a day.
  6. I should try to finish the work some days to the deadline, and go over it before submitting it, and this marks the end of it.
  7. Finally, I intend to give myself a good break. I now have hours and hours of playing video games. I plan to do this for two days and give myself a whole weekend out free without any pressures of work.

 

Impacts of the change

First, this will remove constant pressure in my life. Second I will have time to cook for myself and remove the health problems related to junk foods. Cooking will save me time spent in hospital and the expenses associated with health problems. I will do excellent work, preventing collision with my bosses on the quality of the work. I will still have my time for partying and playing video games.

Costs associated with the change

The highest price to my proposed amendment is pushing my friends away. We love playing video games together in my room, and this means that I have to set limits with them. Since I am planning to schedule my time for playing games according to the timeline of my work, I should stop inviting them over for the games on weekdays. We can still hang out on Friday evening and the whole of weekends.

Plea for action

I intend to have a journal of “to do” work and monitor my progress for each assigned task. I will also immerse myself in my work, and I hope I will be able to achieve my goal. If I can do it for three months, then it will become more relaxed after that.
