Sex and Gender Construction.

The sophistication in social media and medical technology has influenced society in the way it portrays men and women. Today most communities heavily rely on media; they have been consumed by what they see on media, which has led to a changed perception towards intersex. Doctors are focusing on words instead of knives leading to the problem. The implications of a child’s future are considered rather than focusing on the physical aspect. Suzanne Kessler says that intersex is a common genetically occurrence and people should welcome and accept, without assuming it. Judith lobar states that today society views sex as a system of the plain binary of boys and girls.

Intersex is unfairly treated on social media on how it portrays them.  Lobber states clearly that gender construction is a result of socialization.  For instance, people have formed perception with pink color being a representation of a girl and blue for a boy, and the same understanding has been grown where most people consider a boy or a girl during any birth.  Michael Omi and Howard Winant have similar studies to Lobber’s coming up with race as the central source for gender construction. TheyThey state that track touches on social development with examples emanating from the political realm, religious upbringing, and clear differentiation. And intersex should be treated with usual considerations without exclusion. Constricting perception to only males and females has led to the exclusion of the intersex in this modern world. Today’s society is focusing on what a man or a woman will do, and duties are being divided with consideration limited to male or female, and this makes it hard for the intersex to survive. Fitting into modern society drives doctors into performing early surgery on an intersex infant, and with this reason, Kessler adversely with the contemporary world perception advocates for a more inclusive system with a society that welcomes all sex with an open mind that of considering intersex. People accepting the reality of their sex gender helps in solving the problem of excluding intersex. Kessler focuses on the normality of the intersex as human beings who can grow like any other (Messerschmidt and James, 85-88).

Women still undergo a lot of challenges despite their contribution to the overall production of the economy.  According to research on gender equality, women perform more than men. Despite all these efforts, women still face challenges from cultural, political, and economic spheres. Diana Richardson and victoria Robinson tell us in their studies on women that there is a disparity when it comes to the structural role of women in our society. And despite these facts, people still perceive that women are still weak. It very easy to trust women as the way men re trusted in some expertise field. As a fact, in life aspect, menhas better platform despite women being populated as compared to men. This gender biasness has led to low remuneration to women in case of the same jobs. (Diane and Robinson, p.730.  Inequality in gender has rooted unto to the education system.

Negative perception has been imparted to a student through the teachings and materials used are biased when it comes to women. Some policies held are harmful towards the place of women in our home, and this has been the source of diminishing women. Diane and Robinson come up clearly with the recommendation that the same way communication and HIV/AIDS  is thought to our school so the issue of gender should also be addressed and covered well in education system. Gender inequality remains the biggest issue most prominent the moves and changes that are made. War, hunger, and poverty have been a great avenue that women have been exposed to, leaving them more vulnerable and creating them recreating in society. As we empower the women economically, cultural empowerment ; hence it needs to be considered. ( Inderpal and Kaplan p.125).

Recommendations given in the learning about gender construction can help to change such a mentality. Kessler comes in with positivism and creates an atmosphere of welcoming to the intersex and beliefs that if the public can work the recommendation with media, for instance, magazines portraying the right image of the intersex, then all public perception on intersex will automatically change.  Kessler purports as there is a significant change in the way doctors, media, and the general public of the modern world.  The first step towards steering Kessler’s recommendations is through the world, allowing us to embrace this change through social media and technological development coming up with inclusive jobs .as soon as the world takes it. It will change people on their perceptions about intersex.

Socialization is viewed as a contributor to gender construction, with similarities attached to the race being the source of socialization. Systems should be developed along with religious, cultural, and economic spheres that aim at empowering women in society. The education system should emphasize on addressing the issue of gender to empower women. Teaching materials should aim at imparting positively about gender on women. Despite the efforts and changes made, culture should be considered to ensure that women be considered and well protected. Kessler feels sad that still, our society doesn’t recognize the importance of embracing intersex.

Nevertheless, again the help from people, it’s possible to accept people based on their personality rather than the perception placed on people by social media as “ordinary “in terms of genitalia. A doctor’s awareness about the gender sex of the baby should not be that immediate, Kessler suggests that doctors should take time first to analyze the sex gender of the child thoroughly. Sometimes it becomes confusing to the parents, especially where they have been informed of the child’s gender, and later on, they realize the child is an intersex. Therefore Kessler suggests doctors examine before telling parents of the gender, and also, they need to stick to said genders.

Focusing on the future can be a great move to parents, and doctors who get an intersex will help in understanding the right procedures rather than focusing on the current situation, the examination can be done through assessment of the chromosomal sex and the symptoms that produce genital ambiguity. Friedman (187-206) stated that through analysis, doctors could give the right information, although intersex diagnosing is more time consuming.

In conclusion,  Lobber brings binary system as the primary domain that has changed people’s perception about women’s, bringing a notion of gender equality with men being taken special; on the other hand, Kessler brings out the sophistication of social media and technology as the primary source of biasness when it comes to gender construction. Looking at Diane and Robinson, the race, which is the source of socialization, contributes significantly to gender construction with a biased system such as an education system. Dianne advocates for gender education to ensure unbiased and empowerment of women.
