Sexual assault

Sexual assault is defined as an act in which a person touches another one intentionally without his/her consent, coerces, or force another person to engage against their will sexually. Sexual violence is on the rise in our societies today. Several factors contribute to this menace. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the factors that have led to an increase in the number of sexual assaults.

Sexual assault occurs due to several factors.  One of the main contributing factors is the gender-based stereotypes existing in society. For instance, we live in a society where men are portrayed as being aggressive and women passive. Therefore, a man who pressures and coerces woman for sex is considered acceptable, although it is wrong. Thus, a culture of unacceptable tolerant acts by the male gender is what increases the number of sexual assaults.

Our current approach to training reduces sexual assaults on a massive scale. This is because several elements have been put into force to end sexual assault. For instance, victims can report sexual cases freely, empowerment of sexual assault victims to report cases swiftly, and training the highly vulnerable members on their rights and the channels to use in entangling themselves from sexual violence. Therefore, the whole approach is a success.

Alcohol and Drugs use documented by various community and health organizations as the leading factor in increased sexual assaults (Abbey,2001). The use of drugs like cocaine, meth, marijuana, etc. impairs one’s judgment. Therefore, it increases instances of forced sexual engagement. Providing immunity for sexual assault victims will end sexual assault in the military. Protecting their privacy and their jobs in the event of a reported sexual assault by a military member will end the menace in the service (Turchik,2010).

Sexual violence exists in our society because of obsolete gender-based stereotypes and excessive drug use. However, it is never too late because the victims of this threat have been enlightened and have knowledge about their rights about sexual assault. All the stakeholders in both the grass-root level and the federal government are required to address this menace and put it to an end altogether.
