Social dynamics
Introduction
Sexual assault is the invasion of an individual personal space by making sexual advances without consent. Sexual assault takes various forms such as attempted rape, groping or rape, the intrusion of the individual’s personal space in these cases maybe be by a known individual or a stranger to the victim. Partner violence on the other hand can is any psychological, physical or sexual abuse imposed on an individual by an intimate partner. Partner violence occurs among individuals who are in a relationship with one another. However, in both cases, the victims are subjected to cohesion and harm by their oppressors. And as a result, the victims will end up with physical and psychological harm.
Social dynamics
In both cases, there are underlying social factors that lead to these vices. The objectification of women by society results in a high prevalence of both cases. Women are often objectified in society and therefore treated unequally. this objectification creates an environment in which violence towards them can thrive. Another factor is the glorification of violence in society. There still exists a notion of the society regarding the need to assert dominance over others and this is achieved through violence. Due to this logic violence thrives in society since it is championed as a means of achieving dominance and gaining respect from others.
Partner violence recurrence is quite likely to happen to the victim since the oppressor is a partner. Victims can continue to suffer harm for some time since they are in the same environment as the victim. Sexual assault reoccurrence by the same oppressor is however unlikely. while sexual assault is condemned in the society, partner violence is not given the same amount of condemnation. there is a reluctance when it comes to calling out partner violence. society views violence in a relationship as an inevitable and normal occurence. society is therefore biased in the condemnation of partner violence.
Treatment challenges
The victims of sexual assault and partner violence suffer from PTSD. as a result of these conditions, the victims fail to open up and therefore treatment becomes difficult. Counseling is one of the most effective forms of treatment for the victims, however, for the healing process to occur victims need to open up and talk about their experiences and challenges, PTSD inhibits the healing process leaving victims more depressed. If not addressed Increased depression can result in suicide cases among the victims.
