SACCO AND VANZETTI: THE MEN, THE MURDERS, AND THE JUDGMENT OF MANKIND
Introduction
The After the fact Sacco And Vanzetti author’s structure and tone in 1920 was a great time in the USA, though there were some daring tensions and fear among foreigners in America. The author is clear that foreigners were said to be associated with anarchism and terror. The issue resulted in their deportation for fear of rebellion and riots. bitterness when he sees communists getting arrested with no proper warrants. The author gets categorical in expressing the police brutality. They biased as they suspected Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian migrants, to be causes of bank robbery. They were shot mercilessly to death on April 15, 1920 there was no structural evidence to support his claim on those who committed bank robbery. Since on May 5, 1920, there was a duo of Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco arrested while they were picking a vehicle linked to Sacco Vanzetti case. Under circumstantial evidence these men were tried and found guilty (Watson, 2007). The author is clear that the witness was biased and lied that Vanzetti and Sacco could have committed the crime. Due to hatred towards the foreign radicals, the suspects were sentenced to the electric chair. The author feels that Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco were the victims who were having an unfair trial that was based on their beliefs and background. The author shows the immigrants face in a foreign nation, for instance, Bartolomeo Vanzetti, was arrested at the age of 34 years. He was a dreamer and philosophical anarchist. Despite being a scholar, his occupation in America was fish peddler and casual labor .the author, regrettably claims that this character never appeared like could commit any crime ( Conrad et al,2018). Nicola Sacco, arrested at the age of 28, he worked at a shoe company and was known by his employer to be a good character. He attended a radical and agitation meeting during his free time. The author shows concern and care to the two men arrested since they had no criminal record before the incident. He thinks that they were discriminated because they were active in the anarchist politics movement and led some protest. He feels that they were only radical immigrants. The fact that they went to Mexico to fell the draft would make them unlikable. The author points out the sense of these times when the radicals and communists were deported without proper warrants. It is painful that the radical were maltreated and shamefully abused, the author feels that it was a disgraceful period in America.
Overall it is hard to believe that Vanzetti and Sacco arrested during this time. All authorities were aware of the bandits who were associated with robberies. The author does not like the fact that the suspects were arrested because they were slackers radical and foreigners who evaded the draft. Vanzetti said, “We were tried during a time that has now passed into history. I mean by that, a time when there was hysteria of resentment and hate against the people of our principles, against the foreigner, against slacker […]”(Watson, 2007). The author displays both Vanzetti and Sacco to symbolize the growing class struggle in America after the First World War. In the author’s opinion immigrants and radical members, the persecution done to Sacco and Vanzetti was due to their beliefs. The author believes that those in authorities perceived these men as dangerous foreigners aiming to change the way of life in America.
The underlying case was that “[…] two men had been killed in Braintree, ” (Sacco Trial). Vanzetti and Sacco were arrested for armed robbery on May 5th( Conrad et al,2018). The author could hardly understand how the two men who matched the description of the murders were arrested just because they had an Italian origin. This resulted in them being charged with unsuccessful murder theft of money two murders and holdup. The author exposes the biased justice department which depended mostly on propaganda. This was a frame-up trial it was judged by people who had no evidence. It was through the spread of rumors and propaganda that public opinion was excited against radicals. The newspapers propaganda showed that Sacco and Vanzetti fled to Mexico to escape the draft. Additionally, their biographies were printed together with their radial opinions and explained that they had loaded revolvers the time they were arrested. The author points out how the justice system could taint the appearance of Sacco and Vanzetti to the public to get them guilty. This was aimed to enable the government to deport the duo. For instance judge, Thayer encouraged jurors so that they can be able to convict, even before the incident happened. The challenge was that it was not easy to prove that both Sacco and Vanzetti were radicals. The author portrays the picture of the first impression of the jurors during the day of the trial. “The court referred from time to time to the duty of the jurors to serve as did the soldiers on the battlefields of France.” The issue of discrimination is highlighted here as it shows how American was going against the foreigners and radicals. Vanzetti and Sacco had no much chance to win this trial. After the trial, the verdict came to Sacco and Vanzetti were guilty of all charges except murders they were sentenced for 12-15 year in prison. Later found guilty of murders (Watson, 2007).
In conclusion the author is sensitive and claims that there is no way Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti could be proved guilty before the trial. They spoke the way the authorities were unfair and every race. Generally, from the above response, there is no evidence to conclude that Vanzetti and Sacco were guilty. It appears that they were guilty up to the time the jury could prove them innocent . Judges prove how the government was trying to deport Sacco and Vanzetti. The collective knowledge could not be used to make prosecution.it is unethical to see how Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti become victims of a trial that was biased and full of hatred resulting from their beliefs and backgrounds.
