Supplemental Discussion 4 (Module 8)
Most communities grapple with identifying their roles towards attaining sustainable development owing to the unpopular belief that only various agencies and NGOs could play an impactful role in achieving sustainability. However, such assertions are far-fetched and do not take into account the fact that everyone, from every sphere in society, has a role to play in the community in different ways. Thus, the group believes that just as there is a collective responsibility in the use of natural resources, there should also be a responsibility in leadership towards the realization of sustainable development. Collective leadership attributes to the development of collective responsibility towards the need to realize a sustainable use of the available resources. In that regard, all the individuals in society, non-governmental organizations, local administration, and other individuals in the community would play an instrumental role collectively in realizing sustainable development in society. Therefore, by proposing the concept of collective leadership, the authors ignore the individuals’ efforts towards achieving a sustainable community.
