Target Demographics
- The target demographics for Lumbini are focused on Buddhist tourists; this includes the majority of the world’s Buddhist populations that live in East Asia, South-East Asia, and South Asia. These are economically developed areas, where most of their middle-class people travel abroad regularly.
Digital campaigns
- Most tourists visit Nepal for trekking and sightseeing purposes because it’s a mountainous country. However, now the tourism board is prioritizing cultural tourism, and it has planned to market and promote places such as Muktinath, Lumbini, Swargadwari, among others, as a part of the Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign. The aim of this campaign, Visit Nepal 2020, is to attract 2 million tourists to the country by 2020.
- Also, on May 1, 2019, the State 5 Government launched “Visit Lumbini Year 2076” campaign, with the slogan ‘Visit Lord Buddha’s birthplace, Spread the message of peace’. This campaign aims to attract more tourists, domestic and foreign visitors, to Lumbini.
- For the first ten months of 2018, Lumbini had been visited by 1 million tourists, where the majority of them were from Nepal alone. They majorly visited Lumbini’s Maya Devi temple.
