Technological, energy, globalization and feminism change

Technological, energy, globalization and feminism change began in the early 19th century as demonstrated in the chapter. Chapter 22 gives detailed changes that have occurred since the early 19th century to some extent, as discussed below. It is about how innovation has accelerated the industrialization revolution, fight for female rights, economic change, influence on societies, adverse and positive changes and globalization. Technological changes involve the internet, cell phones, automobiles, aeroplanes, nuclear weapons, antibiotics and the electric grid. Although the feminism, globalization and energy/technological developments have more distant past, they signify something new to a greater extent.

On technological changes in the chapter have the origin in the nineteenth century during the Industrial Revolution. It is traced to have begun mainly in Japan, the United States and Western Europe. These regions managed to be the main source of innovations well into the 20th century in the world due to the wealth they got from the early industrialization as well as experience. Technological innovations came with the generation of fossil fuels. The use of natural gasses, oil and coal, has offered a ground for the current world economy which started in the nineteenth century during the industrial revolution. There were also other sources of energy like sunlight, flowing water and wind. The innovation of electricity goes back to the early nineteenth century as the chapter explains. There was the widespread availability of electricity due to electric grids which started in already industrialized nations in the late nineteenth century. The nineteenth-century also saw gas-driven internal combustion engine. This innovation later brought the transportation technology which built upon the revolution growth of steamships and railroads in the nineteenth century. The chapter states that by 1900, there were around 10,000 cars. A good example is an image provided in the chapter showing a tricycle used in France in 1859, which was powered by petroleum. Information and communication technology also goes more to the distant past to a great extent. A good example is a telephone and telegraph which both used electricity and begun in the nineteenth century. The discussion also gets too distant past in the late nineteenth century where people invented high-power explosives like machine guns and dynamites.

The chapter also addresses globalization although it doesn’t have origin in distant past like in technological innovation. The world had an economic network which connected countries across the world. It dates back before and after WWI touching on labor migration, investment and international trade. A transitional corporation is crucial to economic globalization. It discusses how, from the distant past, globalization led to inequality to individual countries as well as regions and among nations.

Feminism in the chapter is connected to the development of personal life as a third source which dates back to the ancient patterns of inequality and oppression. Feminism, according to the chapter, started in the West in the nineteenth century. Its discussion is said to have lost momentum in the early 20th century. Feminism is also discussed to have emerged from women of color in the late nineteenth century. In the nineteenth century, African American women felt little about liberation from oppression since working outside the home since they wanted to be secure from racism and poverty.

The development of technology significantly signifies something new, as demonstrated in the chapter. Technological innovations continue to be something new to the world due to its spread all over the globe. By the end of the 20th century, significant industrial enterprises had been developed in India and Indonesia, China and Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico.  By 2015, for example, there were 45 percent internet users in Nigeria, while 82% could use mobile phone services.  Energy changes started in the nineteenth century signified something new since, by 2014, 85% of the global population could access electricity while some regions such as Japan, Latin America, North Africa and china had a hundred percent electrification. The world also used electric motors. Energy innovations are something new since electrification has become a vital component of every economic development planning. Technological and energy changes have seen something new in transportation and information communication. According to the chapter, East Asia, Middle East, North Africa and Latin America had 90 percent of those who had a television. The use of radios and the internet has also spread all over the globe. Communication technologies have transformed human life across the world while spawning several debated concerning their consequences.  There is also increased employment due to increased global trade. Some companies like Toyota has been selling vehicles around the globe. For example, Toyota had manufacturing facilities in some 28 nations on five continents in 2016, according to the chapter.

There the development of feminism in the nineteenth century also signifies something new. Women have been liberated in the 21st century, and they speak for themselves, and there is a change when it comes to gender equality.  There are open debates concerning sexuality, as demonstrated in the chapter. A good example is in Kenya, an East African country where women have group movements. They have been supporting each other in needy times like funerals, birth and weddings. A woman is given as an example who says she bought land and it is, therefore, hers, and she can do with it whatever she wants.  Feminist has supported lesbian and gay rights which solidified opposition to conservative women rights. Different sources in the “working with evidence” section of the chapter explains how feminism has changed to something new from what could be seen in the past.

Conclusion

Developments discussed in this chapter, including feminism, globalization and technology/energy, have origins in the more distant past to a significant extent. They have reflected how innovations were made in the nineteenth century. Technological innovations like the invention of electricity, gas and gas fuels have been discussed from the past since their invention and first usage and how they have transformed the world and their contribution to the current world. Feminism has changed and transformed into something meaningful with different agendas. Technological, feminism and globalization changes signify something new to a great extent.  The inventions made in the nineteenth century have an impact on the current world, and they have all brought something new differently. A good example is a change of women rights, use of the internet, social media and all other means of communication and the technological changes that have transformed the world economy.
