tennis as a sport
For some time, tennis as a sport has been viewed as a reserve for the elites and a game that is boring to play and watch. Contrary to such wild claims, tennis is a much fun game that consumes both the player and the audience wholly. Conventionally, tennis is played individually facing a single opponent, or the game can be played by two individuals each on both sides of the net (Pluim, 2014). The choice of the number of players in a tennis game is what makes it exciting since one has to have his or her concentration gear on for the whole match. As an audience, it also gives an easy time following the game since there are only two players that the eyes concentrate on. However, the fun of a game of tennis rests on learning it and eventually playing either for leisure or competition.
Learning tennis does not take a lot of extreme measures as it involves hitting the ball with a racket to pass it to the other side of the net. Constant practice ensures that one grasps the basics of the game quickly. Another exciting part of tennis is that it does not require much skill to play because it involves hitting the ball past the net into the opponent’s side. As the player progresses, skills will develop, such as forehand and backhand play, volleys, and anticipation. A good learner will first begin with the basics, and the rest will follow with ease as the player settles into the game and begins enjoying it. Tennis as a game can be very addictive after a player grasps the basics because one has control of his play. There are also not so many rules required in tennis, therefore, making the game a player-controlled one.
Further, a tennis game provides a good work out to the player since one is always engaged for the entirety of the match. Every muscle of the body, including the brain, is always involved in the game, therefore, building an individual’s stamina (Crespo & Reid, 2007). Learning tennis also comes in handy since it can be played everywhere as long as one can create a net and space for two players. The game does not require extensive marking of the pitch as other games such as football and basketball. Another reason to love tennis is that even with the absence of an opponent, one can still play using a backboard. An individual can keep on smashing the tennis balls on the blackboard accurately as a way of training or playing too. Tennis is social and also therapeutic as it can be used to relieve stress and relax the body and mind. Smashing the balls against an opponent or backboard acts as a great stress reliever to the body.
In conclusion, learning and playing tennis is a must in one’s lifetime since it is an engaging game that sweeps the stresses of life away. The game has been touted as a complete workout regime for the human body since all the muscles are engaged in one swoop. The game further provides a platform for different players to engage socially and form long-lasting professional and social relationships. An avid player of the sport also can turn professional and make a considerable amount of money from the tennis competitions that exist all year round. Everyone should, therefore, be encouraged to take up the game of tennis.
