Texture and Form Analysis
The texture and form analysis in this assignment will be on the “Purple haze” by Jimi Hendrix (1967). The instruments playing into the harmony include guitars and drums. The composition of the song and the arrangement of the devices combined with the melody and tempo of the song all add up to the exciting yet lively texture of the song.
Between 0.00-0.04, the song starts with slow beats of the guitar, providing an exciting introduction to the song.
Between 0.04-0.30, the guitar and the drums play actively with increased intensity setting off the tone of the song.
At 0.30-0.42, during this period, the lead singer, who is also the guitarist, introduces the notes by singing the first verse of the song. During this time, the lead singer plays in different tones from low to high, with notes breaking at some time. While the lead singer plays his notes of the song, the instruments are playing steadily but firmly in the background.
Between 0.43-0.45, the lead singer sings the chorus alone without the instruments playing on the background. The moment of silence in the instruments reveals the strong vocal notes of the lead singer while he sings alone without the backup of the devices.
At 0.45-1.02, the lead singer sings with a high note yet loudly on his second verse while the instruments play actively on the background. The instruments (guitars and drums) play actively in the harmony of the song. The drums are steady and soft while the guitars are loud but combined are contributing to the melody of the song.
Between 1.02-1.06, the singer sings the chorus alone without the backup of the instruments on the background.
Between 1.06-1.49, the instruments play continuously without the lead singer singing. During this period, the guitars are playing firmly and loudly, moving from high to low and steady tempo while the drums play strongly but softly continuously.
At 1.50-2.02, the vocalists sing the third verse of the song while the instruments are playing steadily on the background.
2.02-2.05, the lead singer plays the chorus of the song alone without the instruments playing in the background.
Between 2.05-2.11, the singer alternates with the instruments while playing into the final chorus of the song.
Between 2.11-2-15, the instruments play strongly into the end of the song. They play loudly, steadily, and conclusively towards the end of the song.
