The African American Cultural Thrust.

Culture is the social norms, customs, beliefs, or values shared by a specific group of people or a society, and it governs how people behave and live. InAfrica, culture is defined as the way of life, and it is passed from generation to generation. However, cultures are subject to change, although most of them are conservative and try to resist change (Sibani 69). African culture was affected mainly by foreign cultures during colonialism.

The African thought of culture as something that is put in books and museums taught in schools or universities or enjoyed during leisure time has changed to the western tradition of culture as something that can be bought or sold (Dewey 14). Europeans looted the items such as shrines and priest’s masks that were used for worship for commercial purposes. Culture is also viewed as a commodity, far from the way of life, and organizations have been formed to handle it together with tourism. The cultural items have become useless to people and used for tourism attraction and earn money. The Ugandan dances that were meant for entertainment are now used for tourism attraction. Currently, the most important thing in African societies is the tourists’ tastes and interests..

Money is an essential thing in the world, and everything has become money-oriented. African culture has lost its value since it’s no longer preserved or taught to other generations. Instead, it is being used for tourism attraction. What is seen as a culture today is different from culture was in earlier days, and thus, African culture has lost its meaning of the way of life.
