The Effects of New Media
Over the past three decades the political media system has been transformed hence changing the look of democratic governance and political practices. Also given the dynamism of the political media system, government institutions have upgraded their operations and political players’ communication has been altered. The role of journalists has been redefined not forgetting the elections contests and citizen engagement into politics. Therefore through new political media, content has been efficiently produced, disseminated and relayed accordingly.
Legacy media which coexist with new media consist of established media institutions such as newspapers and radio shows maintains relatively stable formats, but with the uprising of the new media the political media system has suffered complications such as increase in instability and unpredictability of the political communication system given the absence of interventions such as editors which are mandatory to legacy media thus relaying information directly to the audience. New media has continued to grow innovatively with mass media designed for broad audiences being narrowed to discrete users through working jointly with niche sources.
