The Future of Nursing 2020 – 2030
“The Future of Nursing 2020-2030” is a report that ought to assess the prevailing condition of science and technology in the United States in order to inform the sponsor, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, about the capacity of the nursing profession to anticipate and adequately deal with social and healthcare demands from 2020 to 2030. This paper provides a summary of the given report and further gives its effects on my future nursing practice.
The article has four significant sections whose summary would be provided in the subsequent parts of this paper. The introduction includes background information on the report. A person reading through it would quickly understand that the report was sponsored by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the assessment technically conducted by an ad hoc committee selected by the National Academy of Medicine. As earlier stated, the main objective of the report was to assess the prevailing condition of science and technology in the United States in order to inform the sponsor about the capacity of the nursing profession to anticipate and adequately deal with social and healthcare demands from 2020 to 2030.
Just after the introduction, the author of the article provides a case example of what the committee found during their second of the tree city visits. With their objective being to examine the approaches used by nurses to address individuals who experienced poor health outcomes and poverty due to complex care needs, the committee made a visit to Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers, Camden, New Jersey. The committee members noted various healthcare problems among the residents of Camden. Importantly, the committee established that, amidst all the challenges, collaboration, and coalition among multiple healthcare agencies and systems were playing a significant role in promoting the healthcare standards.
The writer, thereafter, lists various nursing challenges that would guide the recommendations of the committee and inform their conclusions. One of these challenges includes the responsibility of nurses in promoting the health of families, individuals, and communities. In the last section of the article, the writer gives what the committee wants the people to do concerning “The Future of Nursing 2020-2030”. The community requests the citizens to provide their views and opinions about the possible ways they can use to improve the nursing profession in order to achieve better healthcare for the 21st-century population.
The assigned article was not just mere reading material but has provided significant insights into the future of nursing, hence impacting significantly on my future practice. It has opened various nursing fields that I can pursue other than being a bedside nurse. Unlike before, when I narrowly understood what nursing was, I now know that the domain is broad with several specializations. An individual can opt to be an educator, a nurse advocate, or a change agent. Interestingly, I discovered that I could become a change agent after reading the article. The nursing profession requires rapid changes to cater to the increasing needs of the patients. I would love to be one of the individuals who should initiate and implement such changes.
The United States has always been at the forefront of initiating healthcare changes across the globe. However, its increasing population is worrying and demands various reforms within the nursing profession to cater for the demands. “The Future of Nursing 2020-2030” is, therefore, one of the initiatives that the country through the National Academy of Medicine has developed to assess the capacity of the healthcare system to handle the increasing healthcare demands.
