The Greatness of Philip II
When we talk of Alexanderthe Great and his father Phillip11, we have a feeling of mentorship in governance and leadership. These are iconic historic leaders who have influenced the philosophies of governance in world history through their remarkable military and authoritative achievements in Greece to mushroom and conquer the superpowercities. Athens and Sparta antagonism for supremacy at Greece was halted by a well-calculated military move by Thebes to attack the two vying cities and take over, ruling them under their banner.
Thebeshad gained control as the ultimate military power. Toresolve the attacks, the Greece rulers had to send a son as a hostage to assureno more militaristic attacks were taken against Thebes. Philip II accepted to be held hostage and during his formative years, he received proper military and diplomatic education. This foretells the basis of his skilled military leadership that maintained him relevant and Macedoniato the Greece dynasty.
Macedonia, an iconic city of the monarchy under the rule of a single generation in a single-family unifying the Greeks, challenging and conquering the strong Persia and being subject to the Macedonian banner. Phillip 11 accomplished this and Alexander the Great took over the success in establishing such a large influential empire in the period 359-150BC.
Despite Alexander being labeled the great I feel his greatness should pay tribute to Phillip for his bravely and skilled military effort making him able to build the foundation of the Hellenistic label that alexander perpetuated. Governance structures and strategies laid by Phillip propelled Alexander’s remarkable reign hence I can declare the title of greatness to be crowned to the founder Phillip II.
