The hiring process
The hiring process is a vital aspect of any organization, and having control measures in place to ensure the process is smooth and free of unnecessary errors is required by each organization. The hiring process falls under the functional level of an organization, and functional managers are needed to manage the process in a way that allows the organization to achieve its business-level goals as well as the organization’s corporate goals at large. To ensure the organization does not face any legal issues concerning the violation of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, organizations, should prepare and implement correct hiring procedures and policies.
The Human Resource (HR) department of any company is expected to know and apply laws governing the hiring process to reduce the risk and trouble of managing the employment relationship. Among the requirements that the HR department is expected to adhere to include discrimination and accommodation. For discrimination, the HR department should ensure that they do not discriminate against any employee or job candidate based on the stipulates prohibited grounds. For instance, rejecting an employee or job candidate because they are pregnant should not be done in the organization. Accommodation, on the other hand, requires an organization to accommodate people with disabilities and avoid discriminating against them. The hiring process should be done according to what the law stipulates by assessing their candidates based on the required job specification and this should be part of an organization’s standard operating procedures. At no particular point should an organization use extraneous factors that could intersect with the required prohibited discrimination grounds since it might interfere with the organization’s corporate goals.
