The intensive care unit
The intensive care unit is a sensitive department where most critically ill and vulnerable patients are treated. The collaboration of different healthcare professionals, support, and cooperation from the family is paramount for effective management of patients’ conditions. Regarding support, we request the families and friends to strictly adhere to GBMC hospital visitation hours that are now limited to 12 pm to 8 pm. GBMC recommends that every patient should have someone offering them emotional support during hospitalization. Concerning patients’ and visitors’ safety, the department prohibits persons under the age of 12 years from visiting the patients. The sick individuals are also not allowed in patient care areas. All visitors entering the critical care unit will be required to wear a mask and perform hand hygiene before entering the care areas. Visitors are encouraged to comply with the appropriate attire for isolation precautions when necessary. GBMC strives to meet all patients’ needs and may consider restricting or limit visitations when needed for the sake of patients’ care. The hospital will give reasons for such situations when they occur. Complying with GBMC’s restrictions and recommendations will promote a healthy environment for our patients and visitors.
