The Wizards of Waverly Place review
The Wizards of Waverly Place is a series about three wizard siblings with magic, competing to win the sole custody of the family power and it was aired on Disney Channel. The series has a complete four seasons which contain 106 episodes and a film named Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie plus a unique addition of The Wizards Return: Alex vs Alex. The four seasons began the first-aired episode on October 12, 2007, and the last-aired episode on January 6, 2012. The casts are Selena Gomez as Alex Russo, David Henrie as Justin Russo and Jake T. Austin as Max Russo. The other significant characters as their parents are David DeLuise as Jerry Russo and Maria Canals Barrera as Theresa Russo. Besides the American family sitcom fantasy genre, there are lots of positive reflections that can be seen in this story.
The first episode is started by their usual song theme which is “Everything Is Not What It Seems” by Selena Gomez after a slight screen time of Alex, Justin and Max have a spell’s class with their father, Jerry. In the class, they are learning about a duplication spell. Justin tries to cast a spell on the rabbit, but then, to cast the spell correctly, he needs to concentrate. Unfortunately, he did not focus while doing the spell because he has thought about dogs and causes the rabbit to bark instead of having the actual rabbit sounds. This shows it is essential to have a concentration in whatever we do because it is going to reflect on our actions. If we do something recklessly in our life, it will turn up to something that we do not expect to have.
Next, the episode taught me always to be honest as there is a say ‘honesty is the best policy’. When I watched the show, I got the lesson that whatever the consequences will be, it is always best, to be honest about everything. In the show, Alex uses the duplication spell to cast it on herself, so, that she can go to the sale. Little did she know, when her father sees her in the class as usual even though it is not the real her, he gives permission and money to go to the sale because she makes an effort to be in class although she wants to go to the sale really bad. If Alex would have known that, she would have stayed in the class and not creating the clone of her. In addition to that, her brothers would not have to lie to their father about their sister. Alex even bribed Max with a new pair of sneakers as a promise to keep quiet about her absent and the use of the spell. That is why we should think carefully about how our action can bring good or bad into something. There are always other lies beneath a lie.
However, the lies lead to something even bigger, which is exposing each other crimes. As usual, in siblings, if one goes down, they are going to drag others too. In this case, Alex has used the duplication spell for her own sake, Max has wrecked his father’s beloved, limited wand and Justin had broken Jerry’s new drill even though he tried to fix it. They all were exposed when Alex had told their father about it. However, only Alex receives the punishment as she uses magic without permission from Jerry. The others were dismissed by their father immediately because they did not use magic to do their crimes. At the end of the episode, Jerry asked Alex if making her best friend, Harper lied to her mom and as well as making her brothers lied for her and even ditching her wizard lesson, is worth for the crazy ten minutes sale. This event has shown me that as a teenager, we have our desires to do things unexpectedly and in Alex’s case, she wants revenge for Gigi which is her enemy since kindergarten, but things do not fall into places as she planned. Nevertheless, she had received her punishment while learnt her lesson through it.
In conclusion, I have loved the shows not only because it is a great comedy show, but it has always been my favourite since I was in primary school. The shows have taught me more about good moral values. Therefore, it is indeed a great show to watch with everyone.
