The Zeus of Artemision also called the Poseidon, is believed to be God f seas for its sculpture was discovered from the sea. Zeus represents a real picture of a standing human being with two legs and two arms. He is believed to be muscular with a long regal body, curly hair, and short beard (Mylonas, & George, p.143). Lips and nipples made of copper commonly characterize him with raised holding a lightning bolt that depicts fight in the same position. On the other hand, Shiva Vinadhara consists of Hindu divinities that take a primary picture of standing human being identified symbolically by the hair. Shiva has four sides, the first hands hold a lute-like instrument and in the back having ax and antelope.

Question Considered

What characteristics does each of these figures share with human beings? Why do you think so many religions anthropomorphize their divinities?

Both Zeus and Shiva shares some common characteristics with human beings. Zeus stands well as a human with leveled feet, raised hands that have slender fingers that are finely webbed. He resamples a well-muscled human with blackface renders to be similar to those of humans.  On the other side, Shiva stands on feet by two legs, long hair, face with a gentle smile, and elongated eyes just like human beings (Kessler, & Herbert). Most religions have anthropomorphized their gods to make the concept of their religious beliefs be an understandable, more natural way since it is simpler to be described if gods have a similar image of human beings.

The Court Dress vs. the Woman’s Mantle

Court dress was a unique costume that dictated formalized etiquette of a specific social class reserved for special occasions and ceremonial life of the court. The dress enormously extended horizontally with corseted tapering trunk set over the skirt hence taking an ideal shape on the waist and hips. On the other hand, Woman’s Mantle, also mentioned as chyrpy was a costume that mostly communicated about a woman’s social status in society (Winckelmann, & Johann). It has an accessible style that made and embroidered with tulips forming chain stitch to be sleeved chyrpy worn over the head and shoulders.

Question Considered

Is it immediately apparent to you that these items of clothing are ceremonial? Do their forms and materials offer hints to their function?

Most items of clothing are indeed ceremonial since different occasions will have a different outfit of clothing, and aspects like chyrpy that showed a ceremonious nature of a particular time. Most circumstances, there will be specific design prescribed to the participants and the color theme; hence the form in which they are put on together with the materials gives a hint of the function (Goldstein-Gidoni, p.153). For example, too-Sparkly metallic symbolizes an occasion of a wedding; hence, people can recognize. With that, different attires are used for different times to facilitate our participation in ordinary categorized events.
