They Say / I Say (TSIS)
Before this class, I knew integrating sources as one of the essential parts of academic writing. I knew it as the only necessary tool for writing, but this notion has changed after this class. I learnt that integrating sources entails introducing sources in my paper without matching them with the arguments that I have made in my paper. I also knew integrating sources as a step to allow my tutor to notice that I have researched the topic well and that I have put the work of other experts into consideration.
My reading of TSIS has changed the knowledge that I had about academic writing. TSIS has taught me that for my academic writing to be effective; I should identify the key rhetorical moves to make my writing more pleasing. I also learnt how to frame my arguments in a broad context through discussion for better understanding. TSIS has also taught me that the sources identified should be cited well in any paper as well as using quotation marks in the right way when writing. TSIS has changed my notion of integrating sources.
An example of a template is introducing standard views. For example “ My whole life I have heard it said that………..” or “ Many people assumed that ……….”. This is the right way in which standard views are introduced in TSIS.
